CHATTANOOGA, TN – One Chattanooga State Community College staff member was chosen last month to receive the Dona Sparger Professional Service Award for going above and beyond for students with disabilities.
The award was issued to Dr. Kristi Strode by the Tennessee Association of Higher Education and Disabilities and is the highest honor awarded to those working in higher education disability services in Tennessee.

On Tuesday, April 9, astronomer Dr. Charles Law will come to the ChattState main campus to teach students and other guests about the planet formation process, touch on recent observational findings, and discuss the future of studying planet formation.

All events are free to the public except as noted, but donations are accepted at the door. Presentations are held at the Chattanooga State Humanities Theater except as noted.
On Veterans Day 2023, TBR, the College System of Tennessee honored two Chattanooga State Community College veterans with a Chancellor’s Commendation for Military Veterans.
In a four-year tradition started by Tennessee Board of Regents Chancellor Flora W. Tydings, one person on each of the system’s campuses is honored annually with a challenge coin emblazoned on one side with symbols for each branch of the military and on the other with the Chancellor’s Commendation designation.
In 2023, 37 students, faculty, staff, and alumni system-wide were given a challenge coin.

Although tools alone don’t make someone a great worker, even the most talented people will struggle to get the job done without the proper tools, especially in the automotive industry, which requires a pretty large-sized toolbox full of wrenches and ratchets, pliers, and prybars.

Our Writers@Work program, part of the Humanities Department at ChattState, is thrilled to welcome the poet Ariel Francisco for an exciting celebration of his poetry collection, A Sinking Ship Is Still a Ship, from April 4-6. Each year, we feature a Southern author whose work is woven into the curriculum of our Composition Two course, allowing students to explore a specific piece and sharpen their critical skills.
Chattanooga State Community College names the Center for Engineering, Technology, Arts and Sciences (CETAS) in honor of Gerald McCormick, a former Tennessee House of Representatives member. McCormick served from 2004-2018 and was a longtime champion of higher education across the state. The building will now be called the Gerald McCormick Center for Engineering, Technology, Arts and Sciences.
