Chattanooga State hosts TCPRA Spring Conference

Chattanooga State Community College hosted the spring conference of the Tennessee College Public Relations Association, May 18 – 20, 2011. Public relations professionals from across the state converged on the scenic city to share and compare the latest trends in writing press releases, media relations, social media and graphic design.

4th Annual Community Health, Fun, and Wellness Expo + “Operation Medicine Cabinet”

The Community Health Institute at Chattanooga State will host the “4th Annual Health, Fun, and Wellness Expo” Friday, April 29 from 9am-1pm in the Health Science Center located on the Amnicola campus. This is a large comprehensive health fair that is open to the public offering numerous free health screenings and exhibits from area health professionals and wellness-related organizations. Parking is free and easily accessible.

Chattanooga State Community College Opens President’s Distinguished Speakers Series with Presentation by Herbert Parker

On Thursday, October 7, Chattanooga State Community College will welcome Herbert Parker to campus as the first speaker in the college’s newly-established President’s Distinguished Speakers Series.  Beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the Faculty/Staff Dining Room, Mr. Parker will highlight his experiences working as a corporate executive in foreign countries during a program entitled “Adapting to the Cultural Differences in an International Business Environment.”  A reception follows Mr. Parker’s presentation.  Both the lecture and reception are open to the public free of charge.

Chattanooga State Hosts Arts Extravaganza on May 7

Chattanooga State Community College will host its first annual Fine Arts Extravaganza on Friday, May 7.  The event begins at 6:30 p.m. with an informal walking tour of the college’s outdoor museum, led by Chattanooga State’s artist-in-residence, sculptor John Henry.  At 7:30 p.m., the festival continues with a salute to the performing arts in the Humanities Theatre in the C.C. Bond Humanities Building.  The Fine Arts Extravaganza is open to the public free of charge.  The schedule for the extravaganza welcomes community participation at either one or both scheduled events.

Dr. Kelly Denton-Borhaug Lectures at Chattanooga State on April 15

Esteemed scholar and feminist theologian, Dr. Kelly Denton-Borhaug, will be speaking at Chattanooga State Community College on Thursday, April 15, at 7 p.m.  The lecture, entitled “Co-opting Christian Sacrifice to Promote U.S. War Culture,” will be held in the college’s new Health Science Center in Room 1085 on Chattanooga State’s main campus.  The event is open to the public free of charge.

Naomi TuTu Lectures at Chattanooga State on March 24

Naomi Tutu, daughter of Nobel Laureate and human rights activist Archbishop Desmond Tutu, will visit Chattanooga State Community College on Wednesday, March 24.  An author, activist, and economist, Ms. Tutu will present her lecture, “What Gift do You Bring?”,  during a program at 10 a.m. in the Humanities Auditorium located in the C.C. Bond Humanities Building on Chattanooga State’s main campus.  The event is open to the public free of charge.

Chattanooga State Students Participate in Legislative Process

Chattanooga State Community College recently sponsored eleven students at the 40th General Assembly of the Tennessee Intercollegiate State Legislature (TISL).   The event convened at the Tennessee State Capitol during the weekend of November 12-15, 2009.   The Chattanooga State Community College delegates joined approximately 250 students from around Tennessee to debate legislation, conduct student elections, and vote on bills that could affect the future of Tennessee.

Chattanooga State Professor Presents Discussion About the Relationship Between Science and Religion

On Friday, December 4, Chattanooga State will conclude its celebration of the Year of Science 2009 by hosting a brown bag lunch presentation entitled “Indulging the Doubting Thomas:  Science and Religion in the 21st Century.”  Beginning at 12 noon, David Wollert, associate professor of biology, will lead the discussion in Room 126 of the Albright Omniplex Building, which is located on the college’s main campus at 4501 Amnicola Highway.  The public is invited to attend the event free of charge.

State Public Health Official, Dr. Rand Carpenter, Visits Chattanooga State

On Monday, November 23, Chattanooga State Community College will host two presentations by Dr. Rand Carpenter, an epidemiologist and the assistant public health veterinarian at the Tennessee Department of Health.  Dr. Carpenter’s first program, which begins at 12 noon in Room 126 of the Albright Omniplex Building, is entitled “Health and Medicine.”  Dr. Carpenter will lead an evening discussion, “Connections-Environmental, Animal, and Human Health,” at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of Chattanooga State’s new Health Science Center.  Both presentations are open to the public free of charge.

Chattanooga State Community College Presents Program about Local Jewish History

In partnership with the Jewish Community Federation of Greater Chattanooga, Chattanooga State Community College will present a program highlighting the history of Chattanooga’s Jewish community on Sunday, September 13.  Beginning at 3 p.m. in the Humanities Theatre on Chattanooga State’s main campus, the event will feature introductory remarks from Dr.
