Dr. Azar Raiszadeh, Professor of Mathematics

In addition to doing an exemplary job in teaching her assigned classes, Dr. Azar Raiszadeh was in charge of Learning Support (LS) Math 0810 and 0820 courses over the last several semesters. She did an outstanding job in organizing and reorganizing the courses and chairing the Math Redesign Committee. The two LS Math 0810 and 0820 courses are the courses being taught as high school Bridge Math at high schools in the Seamless Alignment and Integrated Learning Support (SAILS) Tennessee initiative funded by Governor Haslam. SAILS Program Transforms Math Readiness

Chattanooga, TN --- When the SAILS Program (Seamless Alignment and Integrated Learning Support) was piloted at Red Bank High School several years ago, educators had high hopes. During its first year of the statewide expansion, statistics show that “786 out of 1,043 students in Hamilton County who participated in the SAILS Program wiped out their need for developmental math in college,” states Dr. Robert Denn, Dean, Honors and Special Programs at Chattanooga State. “Many schools had near or at 100 percent completion rate,” he adds.

Excellence in Faculty Innovation Award

Chattanooga, TN --- John Squires, Chattanooga State Community College math department head and associate professor, won the Faculty Innovation award, a new category in this year’s Excellence Awards.

All across the nation, community colleges are working hard to increase completion rates. Chattanooga State was one of six community colleges honored for their commitment to student success during the 94th Annual American Association of Community College (AACC) Convention Awards of Excellence Gala in Washington, DC.

Veterinary Technology Program Receives Full Accreditation

Kimberly Munsey-Carlton - Paralegal Studies

Kimberly Munsey-Carlton has nothing but high praise for her Chattanooga State instructors. She says, “Paul Ray ‘is’ the paralegal program. His passion for our success is overwhelming. If you can’t learn what working for a lawyer is like from Paul Ray, you shouldn’t work in a law office. Muhammad Ammar Ali - AA General Transfer TTP

Despite working in the physics department on campus, and in his uncle’s shop on weekends, Muhammad Ammar Ali has wasted no time in pursing his dream of becoming a pediatrician. A 2011 high school graduate, he followed the Tennessee Transfer Pathways program in Biology. He will continue at UTC in the Pre-Professional Biology major in order to reach his next goal --- medical school. He chose his career path based on his strengths. Muhammad is grateful for the support he received from his advisors, teachers, family and friends.

Local Authors Squires and Wyrick Win Pearson Award

Chattanooga, TN --- Pearson Education, the largest U.S. education publisher and provider of assessment services to schools and corporations, recently announced that two local educators are the recipients of the coveted Pearson Higher Education Product of the Year Award for 2012. John Squires, Chattanooga State mathematics department head, and Karen Wyrick, chair of the math department at Cleveland State, have been honored for their MyMathLab eCourse Series.

Volkswagen Chattanooga, Chattanooga State and Tennessee Tech Announce New 2 + 2 Partnership in Engineering

Volkswagen Group of America, Chattanooga Operations, Chattanooga State Community College and Tennessee Technological University will announce the creation of a new 2+2 partnership between the two educational institutions leading to a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology. Details of the new program will be announced on Wednesday, June 8 at 11 a.m. at the Volkswagen Academy in Enterprise South.

Chattanooga State Hosts Forum on Global Climate Change

Chattanooga State invites the community to attend a brown bag lunch discussion focusing on global climate change.  Facilitated by Thom Benson, the communications manager at the Tennessee Aquarium and former meteorologist at WRCB, the event is open to the public free of charge.   Slated for Tuesday, April 28, the presentation begins at 11 a.m. in the Faculty/Staff Dining Room located in the Omniplex building on Chattanooga State’s main campus.  The presentation will last approximately one hour.
