When Stacey Franklin took on the job of women’s head basketball coach for Chattanooga State, she expressed a determination to be the best, and her 2019-2020 team exceeded those expectations. As an all-freshman, entirely new team, the Lady Tigers came together very quickly to work through the challenging transition of becoming student-athletes. “Their toughness and determination was evident early on,” states Coach Franklin, who had the honor of being named 2019-2020 TCCAA Region VII Coach of the Year.
The Chattanooga State’s women’s volleyball team will take on the Bryan College team at 6 p.m. on Monday, September 30 at home for a “Pink Out Match.” Proceeds will go to the Mary Ellen Locher Scholarship Foundation (MEL). Donations will be taken at the door and no admission fee will be charged for this special night. The first 50 individuals to come through the door will receive a free “Pink Out” t-shirt.
Rising 3rd to 8th grade girls will have a chance to polish their skills and learn new ones while having fun during the Lady Tiger Basketball Camp. Camps will take place the week of July 22-25, 2019.
The camp is divided into two, four-hour sessions. Mornings will focus on grades 3-5 from 8 a.m. to Noon. Middle school age girls in grades 6-8 will meet from 1-5 p.m. The camp fee is $50 per child.
The public is invited to come out and enjoy the Annual Pancake Breakfast fundraiser hosted by the 2019 Chattanooga State baseball team in the Albright Omniplex cafeteria on Saturday, January 26 from 9 a.m. till 11:30 a.m. Members of the baseball team will greet and serve the breakfast. Chattanooga State’s inaugural women’s volleyball team has added an additional nine signees, bringing the number of team members to 12. The women have been practicing throughout the summer in preparation for their opening match at home on August 28 against Hiwasee College beginning at 6 p.m.
The newest signees hail from Hamilton County and the North Georgia area joining current team members 5’11” middle hitter Sakari Pack, 5’8” outside hitter Anna Maria Novelli, and 6’2” middle hitter Sidney Killingsworth.
Robin Moore, former head coach for volleyball and softball teams at Notre Dame High School, has been named assistant coach at Chattanooga State Community College. Moore joins veteran volleyball coach Janet Tate as Chattanooga State launches its inaugural season of collegiate volleyball this fall.
Chattanooga State has been busy building the college’s first inaugural volleyball team by signing Sakari Pack, Anna Maria Novelli, Sidney Killingsworth, and most recently Ricki Lynn Bickley to its stable of players.
An additional tryout has been scheduled for Saturday, June 2 from 10:00 a.m. to Noon in the gymnasium of the Health Fitness Center Building on the main campus. Women who want to tryout must have a signed physical form in-hand before participating at tryouts.
ChattState has added Women’s Volleyball to its Athletic program, beginning fall semester 2018.
The program is holding tryouts this Sunday, April 15 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. in the gymnasium of the Health Fitness Center Building on the main campus. Women who want to play volleyball as a Lady Tiger for Chattanooga State Community College should sign in upon arrival and come dressed and ready to tryout.
Signed physical forms before participating at tryouts are mandatory.
The 13th Annual ChattState Tigers vs. Chattanooga Lookouts exhibition game is just two weeks away; set for Tuesday, April 3 with game time at 6:15 p.m. General admission tickets are on sale now for $5 through the Lookouts box office, on game day, or by calling ChattState Tiger Baseball head coach Greg Dennis at 423.697.2418.
