July 11, 2022 (Chattanooga, TN) --- Susan Jennings, Dean of Library Services at Chattanooga State Community College, was recently named the 2022 recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award by the School of Information Sciences (SIS), University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
The award recipient is chosen by a selection committee assembled by the SIS director that honors an alumnus or alumna who graduated at least ten years previously, and who demonstrates a meritorious career in Library Science based on service, teaching, and/or scholarship.
July 1, 2022 (Chattanooga, TN) --- Chattanooga State’s Dwight Hunter will officially step into the role of president for the Tennessee Library Association (TNLA) for the 2022-2023 year on July 1 after serving as vice president/president elect during 2021-2022. Hunter, a librarian in Chattanooga State’s Kolwyck Library and Information Commons (KLIC) since 1992, holds a master’s degree in Information Systems (MSIS) from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
As the world held its breath as the year 2000 arrived, Chattanooga State’s Augusta R. Kolwyck Library & Information Commons (KLIC) team was ready for “Y2K.” As early adopters of technological trends, the library staff embraced change in order to remain relevant and inspired in an increasingly digital world.
Chattanooga State’s Dwight Hunter is the 2019-2020 recipient of the “Making a Difference Award” by the Tennessee Library Association (TLA). Hunter, an assistant librarian in the Kolwyck Library and Information Commons (KLIC), holds a Master of Science in Information Systems degree (MSIS) from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. He is KLIC’s policy writer, a lead in accessibility, heads the library’s Social Media team, and also sits on the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) Library Accessibility Task Force.
Chattanooga State’s Night/Weekend/Tennessee Reconnect Librarian, Amanda Roper, has been named as one of 50 participants in the American Library Association (ALA) Emerging Leaders, Class of 2020.
“This is a highly competitive and prestigious program sponsored by ALA to help shape the next generation of newly minted librarians,” states Susan Jennings, Chattanooga State dean of Library Services.
Before Hurricane Irma unleashed her fury, there was Hurricane Harvey, which heavily flooded Houston and the surrounding areas – among them was Lumberton, TX, a small town near Beaumont with just under 12,000 residents. The town, virtually underwater, is hometown to Associate Professor Erica Lux, who naturally was worried about her family and friends there. The flood waters have receded, but the town is in critical need of resources for clean-up.
The 2017 Solar Eclipse frenzy has spread to Chattanooga State Community College. Although the actual eclipse date is Monday, August 21, ChattState has planned a series of activities to celebrate this once in a lifetime event.
