Chattanooga State Community College this week announced an exciting lineup of fine arts events for the Fall 2025 semester. The lineup includes art exhibitions, live theater, recitals, and a 60th Anniversary Alumni Reception. Don't miss these exciting opportunities to see the work of ChattState's talented students, alumni, and faculty members.

Unless noted otherwise, all events are free to the public and presented at the Chattanooga State Humanities Theatre.

Chattanooga State Fosters Student Creativity and Growth with Debut of Denise Heinly Art Center

CHATTANOOGA, TN -- Chattanooga State Community College students, alumni, and faculty now have the opportunity to show off their hard work in an on-campus art center. 

Named after a former professor who helped shape the College’s art program, the Denise Heinly Art Center will house projects by students, alumni, and faculty, allowing the college and community to appreciate art made by learners and professionals alike. 

From Passion to Profession: How a ChattState Student’s Project Helped Her Find a Job

CHATTANOOGA, TN -- One Chattanooga State Community College graduate is among the newest employees at a Chattanooga brewery thanks, in part, to a project she completed while studying graphic design at the College

Now a Creative Assistant at Oddstory Brewing Co. in Chattanooga, Kaitlyn Whalen said ChattState offered her a strong combination of robust instruction and creative freedom that both helped prepare her for a career as a professional graphic designer and land her the new position.

ChattState Spring Fine Arts Lineup Includes Musicals, Recitals, Exhibitions, and More

CHATTANOOGA, TN -- Arts students and faculty at Chattanooga State Community College this spring will offer a variety of events from student recitals to plays and musicals. All events are free to the public except as noted, but donations are accepted at the door. Presentations are held at the Chattanooga State Humanities Theater except as noted. 

ChattState Art Professor Hosts Fiber Arts Installations in Alabama, Texas

CHATTANOOGA, TN -- Chattanooga State art professor Jennnifer ”Baggs” McKelvey is displaying her unique works in two art museums in Alabama and Houston this month. 

McKelvey, who has taught as both an adjunct and assistant professor at ChattState since 2016, is also an ex officio board member of the Chattanooga-based Mid-South Sculpture Alliance. 

“A Great Experience": Graduating Students Reflect on Time at ChattState

CHATTANOOGA, TN -- As the December 2023 graduation approaches, Chattanooga State Community College students are preparing for the next chapter. Some students plan to return to their jobs, and some are forging a path to new employment. Others are preparing to start classes at four-year universities in the spring.

Michael Holsomback – Assistant Professor/Art

Mike Holsomback is a well-known professional artist and dedicated, veteran art department faculty member at Chattanooga State Community College in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Professor Holsomback is a productive painter and collage artist, having a considerable regional and national exhibition record. His works have been selected for exhibitions in numerous venues and are found in the holdings of many private, corporate and government collections.
