Tennessee Reconnect Students Say ‘Do It’
April 29, 2021 | Betty A. Proctor | Press Release
Chattanooga State students that have been accepted into the Tennessee Reconnect program all have similar advice to potential students: “Do it!”
This program was an instant hit when it premiered in 2018 as a way for students to complete their dream of earning a degree, certificate, or technical diploma with little or no debt. More than 1,500 students have taken advantage of the program and more than 300 students have graduated to start a new career or pursue additional degrees.
“Chattanooga State may just be the single best option whether you are seeking a 2-year degree or a transfer,” stated Amber Newbille, a first-generation college student. “Not only is it free thanks to Reconnect, but faculty and staff are top tier.”
Tiffany Cashore was working as a dental assistant when she decided to pursue a different path in Computer Information Technology, Networking Concentration. She had a part-time job in addition to other responsibilities and could only attend school part-time, which Reconnect allows. “Tennessee Reconnect is one of the best solutions for those who seek a degree later in life,” said Tiffany.
After finishing high school, Andrew Wetzel went to college but lacking focus, dropped out. Even though he enrolled in a trade school and later became a Gold Level Porsche mechanic, he felt that something was still missing, and it made him realize how much he enjoys helping people. Andrew decided on a nursing career but was apprehensive about returning to college until he discovered that Tennessee Reconnect would allow him to return without a pile of debt. Since finding out what he wanted to study, Andrew has been more focused, driven to do well, and earned A’s in all his classes. “You can feel the passion of the professors here and you can see that they really want you to succeed,” shared Mr. Wetzel.
