Chattanooga State Community College is selecting outstanding students for membership in the National Chapter of Spire, the national honor society for adults and other non-traditional students. SPIRE recognizes the unique achievements of adults and non-traditional students enrolled in associate degree programs. SPIRE was created to provide non-traditional students with the same level of recognition that traditional outstanding students have always received.

Selection for membership in SPIRE represents the highest level of academic performance and out-of-class accomplishments that a non-traditional student can attain in America’s community and junior colleges. Non-traditional students are usually age 24 or older, and may face unique challenges as college students because of their age and their particular life situations.

To be considered for membership into SPIRE, students must qualify as an adult or non-traditional student, be within 12 months of graduation, have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, be involved in at least three campus or community activities, and maintain the highest ethical standards. Personal Data Sheets, requested through Ms. Barker, are due no later than April 2. Accepted applicants will be notified by email.

The induction ceremony for new SPIRE members will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, April 12. Members will receive a certificate, cord, and lapel pin. For more information about how to become a member please contact (423) 697-4483 or email marsha.barker@chattanoogastate.edu.
