Chattanooga State Community College this week announced an exciting lineup of fine arts events for the Spring 2026 semester. The lineup includes art shows, recitals, and live theatre, including a musical reimagining of the horror classic The Evil Dead. 

Unless noted otherwise, all events are free to the public and presented at the Chattanooga State Humanities Theatre.

Theatre: Twobird

Dates: Wednesday, February 4 at 2 p.m. | Friday, February 6 at 7 p.m.
Location: Humanities Theatre
Twobird uses dance, movement, mask play, music, and acting to tell the soul journey of Malcolm Bruce from the location of a southern small town chicken factory. In telling his story, Malcolm conjures a sequence of dreams portraying the various characters and stories of his life. Twobird is a solo performance written and performed by Michael McCamish, Professor of Anthropology and Criminal Justice at ChattState. The musical score is composed and performed by Chattanooga’s Bob Stagner. The show was originally directed by Maria Lexa of Denmark. This is the 4th run of the show with its original production performed in 2009 in Berkeley, CA, the 2024 Chattanooga Fringe Festival, and then 2025 at the Barking Legs Theatre. 

Rated PG for language and subject matter. Admission is free to all. Twobird is sponsored by the ChattState Honors Program. 

Music: “Fact and Fiction” featuring the Symphonic Band

Date: Thursday, February 12 at 7 p.m.
Location: Humanities Theatre
Join the Chattanooga State Symphonic Band for the first installment of the two-part series, “Fact and Fiction.” This concert will feature musical selections that are sourced from real-world events, geography, and styles. The Symphonic Band is directed by Nick Hartline and includes students of the college, the STEM School of Chattanooga, Collegiate High, as well as community volunteers. 

Music: Chattanooga Clarinet Choir

Date: Sunday, February 15 at 2:30 p.m.
Location: Humanities Theatre
The Chattanooga Clarinet Choir, led by Nick Hartline, will perform a program of pieces composed originally for clarinet choir as well as masterworks adapted for this unique ensemble.

The Chattanooga State Music Department faculty present selections from the classical, contemporary, and American music repertories. Selections include works for voice, piano, guitar, and other instruments.

“The classic cult films come to life on stage in one of the craziest, funniest, and bloodiest theatrical experiences of all time.” (Music Theatre International) This musical combines elements from the first two films in the cult classic horror film series Evil Dead, which are about five friends who go to a cabin in the woods and discover that the woods are possessed by demonic forces. This musical is directed by Garry Posey, music directed by Jennifer Wilson, choreographed by Lindsay Fussell, and features fight choreography from Tyler Buckingham, a ChattState alumnus who has gone on to do professional acting, fight choreography, and stunt work for film and television in Atlanta. Evil Dead the Musical is presented through a special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). This musical is RATED R for explicit language, sexual innuendo, and approximated violence and gore. This production is NOT suitable for children.

As part of Chattanooga State’s 60th Anniversary celebration, the music department is proud to present a recital featuring alumni from the last 15 years. Our alumni have gone on to pursue university study, became teachers, performers, and integral members of our community music and theatre scenes. Join us for this recital featuring vocal and instrumental performances from our talented alumni.

Music: Jim Lees Piano Recital

Jim Lees, piano student of Dr. Alan Nichols, will present a recital of solo piano music featuring works by 19th-century American composer Louis Gottschalk, Scott Joplin, and others. Admission is free.

The Chattanooga State Jazz band presents an evening of jazz standards with mixed ensemble, under the musical direction of Jay Stanfill. 

Music: Harmony Brown and Grace Greenwood Sophomore Recital

Location: Humanities Theatre
Harmony Brown, vocal student of Dr. Amanda Hyberger, and Grace Greenwood, violin student of Emily Drexler, will partner to present a Sophomore Recital. Harmony and Grace are graduating this semester with an Associate of Fine Arts degree in music. Come and join us in celebrating their hard work these past two years.

The theatre department is pleased to present its fourth annual dinner theatre production, this time featuring the play, "As You Like It," by William Shakespeare. As You Like It is one of Shakespeare’s comedy plays that features disguise, witty banter, and love stories. The play is adapted and directed by guest artist Frank Mihelich and stage managed by Katie Hamilton. The play will feature ChattState students and alumni.  Admission is $20 and includes dinner and the show. Tickets should be purchased in advance. 

Music: Chattanooga Clarinet Choir & Jericho Brass Band

Date: Sunday, April 19 at 3 p.m.
Location: Humanities Theatre
The Chattanooga Clarinet Choir, led by Nick Hartline, will once again join forces with the Jericho Brass Band of Chattanooga, led by David Butler. Each ensemble will perform a program of works for their unique instrumentation and then combine for a powerful finale.

Chattanooga State students of vocal and instrumental applied study will perform a recital of selected musical works of the classical, contemporary, and traditional American repertories.

"Water: From Rain to the Deep" Come join Chattanooga State's Concert Choir as we trace the journey of water. From tiny rain drops to the depths of the ocean, you will experience choral music inspired by jazz, bluegrass, sea shanties, spirituals, and classical music.  

Music: Chattywampus Trio

Date: Sunday, April 26 at 2:30 p.m.
Location: Humanities Theatre
The faculty trio Chattywampus, led by flutist Cindy Solfest-Wallis, clarinetist Nicholas Hartline, and pianist Alan Nichols, will present an evening of chamber music from various musical periods and styles. The concert will also feature student musicians.

Date: Tuesday, April 28 at 7:30 p.m.
Location: Humanities Theatre
Come enjoy performances by acting and musical theatre students and see showcases of work by design/tech students. Some scenes may include mature content not suitable for children. Admission is free and open to the public. 

Music: Elliott Herring Junior Piano Recital

Date: Saturday, May 2 at 7 p.m.
Location: Humanities Auditorium
Elliott Herring, a dual-enrollment high school student of Dr. Alan Nichols, will present a recital of solo piano music featuring works by Franz Schubert, Alexander Scriabin, Sergei Rachmaninoff, and others. Admission is free.
