How can I find a job or internship?

Will my visit be confidential?

Yes, we assure confidentiality at all times. As a counselor, you are guaranteed the protection of confidentiality within the boundaries of the client/counselor relationship. We will not make any disclosure of any information without your written consent. The only limitations to confidentiality occur when a student is either a threat to themselves or someone else, or when legal requirements demand that confidential information be shared.

What career services do you provide to students?

We assist students and alumni with career/major decision-making, job/ internship search and personal career counseling, as well as provide services such as computer based career assessments and more. Our office is located in the Student Center, suite 137. Our phone number is 423-697-4421.

Where is the Career Services office and when are you open?

Where is the Career Services office and when are you open? We are located in student center, suite 137 and our hours are 8:00 am - 5:30 pm, Monday-Thursday and 8:00 am-4:30 pm on Fridays; after-hour appointments by request. The office remains open during the fall, spring, and summer breaks.

Are walk-ins welcome?

Walk-ins are welcome to see an "available" counselor. Due to the high percentage of scheduled appointments your wait may be extensive, appointments are recommended.

How do I make an appointment with a counselor?

It's easy! Just call 423-697-4421. The receptionist will help you select a convenient time. To help the counselor prepare for your visit, the receptionist will generally ask what assistance you need (e.g., help with making a career decision, a critique of your resume, general job-search assistance, personal career counseling, etc).

How long are appointments?

Appointments are usually scheduled for either 30 or 60 minutes depending on the type of assistance you need.

Is there a test that will tell me what to major in?

We offer a variety of career assessments to help individuals decide on their major or figure out how to apply their major to career choices. To find out more information, register to attend a Career Information Session.

How do I sign up for a Mock Interview?

Just call or stop by to make an appointment. Professional dress is a plus but not required. Don't forget to bring a copy of your resume to the interview. We will videotape your interview and review it with you. This session takes approximately 1 hour.

How do I get online interview practice?

Our online practice module is available to all individuals needing interview assistance and practice. Actual questions, sample answers and applicable coaching are provided in this process and it's all online.

How do I get help with my resume?

We offer a variety of services to help you develop a resume.

  • Resume Doctor: Give your resume a check-up! For a quick 15 minute resume critique bring a copy of your resume during walk-in hours on Wednesdays between 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. in the Student Center, suite 137.
  • Individual Assistance: We are happy to meet with you individually to help you get started or improve a resume you already have written. If you would like to discuss your resume, call Career Services and Counseling at 697-4421 or stop by the Student Center, suite 137 to schedule an appointment.
  • Email: You may also email your resume to resumedoc@chattanoogastate.edu. You will receive a response within 3-5 business days.
When are future career fairs scheduled?

We sponsor several events throughout the year to engage networking for students and potential employers. We have a large Fair each spring in the gymnasium with over 75 companies participating. We also invite companies on campus to share employment opportunities and expectations with our student body throughout the year.

For students planning to attend a four year institution following completion of their associate's degree, we sponsor a College Transfer Fair each fall.
