Curriculum Details

The Health Sciences A.A.S. degree program is designed to foster the potential for career advancement into supervision and management positions in healthcare by expanding management knowledge with guided electives and Allied Healthcare courses.

Eligible Students

Current students or graduates of a *TCAT health field such as:

  • Practical Nursing (LPN)
  • Surgical Technology
  • Massage Therapy
  • Medical Assistant

Current students or graduates of certificate programs such as:

  • Pharmacy Technician
  • Dental Assisting
  •  EMS programs (i.e. EMT, AEMT, and Paramedic)

Degree Qualifications

To qualify for this degree, one the following three criteria must be met:

  • completion of an accredited clinically-based technical certificate health program OR
  • a diploma from a Tennessee Technology Center in a clinically-based health program OR
  • either be admitted to or planning to apply for admission to a program of study of that would satisfy one of the two paths described above OR
  • certified and/or licensed in one of the above referenced health care fields

*A 1290 clock hour program in the TCAT may translate up to approximately 24 Advanced Credit hours toward this degree program.

Any program with less than 1290 clock hours or 30 technical certificate credit hours will be awarded a prorated amount of Advanced Credit hours.  Additional Guided Elective courses must then be taken to obtain the required number of prorated Advanced Credit Hours.

Degree Requirements

Advanced Placement Credit (24-30 HRS)

Up to 30 HRS for a technical certificate in health care field:

  • Pharmacy Technician
  • Dental Assisting
  • EMT/AEMT

Up to 24 HRS for a technical diploma in a healthcare field:

  • LPN
  • Medical Assistant
  • Massage Therapy
  • Surgical Technician

General Education (15-16 HRS)
Guided Electives Requirement (6-12 HRS)
Allied Health Science Requirement (9 HRS
)

  • ALHS 2311 (Management and Leadership for Health Supervisors)
  • ALHS 2312 (Contemporary Issues in Healthcare)
  • ALHS 2314 (Medical Law and Ethics)
  • ALHS 2317 (Fundamentals of Health Care Finance)
