Chattanooga, Tenn. --- Chattanooga State Community College announces a unique and innovative way for students to earn credit hours toward graduation. Maymester is a condensed and accelerated semester scheduled between the end of the spring semester and the beginning of the summer term at Chattanooga State.

A full range of courses is available from the Social & Behavioral Sciences, Mathematics & Sciences, Humanities & Fine Arts, and Business & Information Technologies divisions at Chattanooga State.

Maymester courses are not only beneficial for Chattanooga State students, who want to pick up valuable credit hours without committing their entire summer vacation in the process, but for all college students in the area.

Maymester is scheduled for May 9-30. Classes will meet Monday through Friday for three weeks. All classes earn three credit hours and meet three hours per day. The one exception is the physical education walking for fitness class, which is a two credit hour class that meets for two hours per day.

Maymester is for students who are up for a challenge. Students are cautioned not to be fooled by the addition of the new catchier titles. These are traditional Chattanooga State classes that are transferable to colleges and universities across the state and the nation.

“The course numbers are the same and the content is the same,” says Chattanooga State Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Fannie Hewlett. “What’s different is the unique instructional methodology of the classes. The second, catchier titles are designed to more clearly communicate the overall focus of the class to students.”

Transient students who wish to take Maymester classes will need to apply to the college before they can enroll in class.
