Logistics, Freight, and Transportation
Last year 7 of the 11 fastest growing Chattanooga-based companies were in transportation and logistics. Chattanooga State is responding to business and industry needs for workforce development. As such, we are expanding our transportation program and adding logistics, supply chain, and freight brokerage to match the demand of our community.
Available Programs
Logistics and Supply Chain Technical Certificate
Pending approval. This certificate is embedded within the Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) Degree in Business Management. The certificate prepares students for employment in the supply chain management field and is designed to introduce logistics principles to students seeking first-time employment in supply chain management or for more experienced individuals desiring to expand their knowledge.
Supply Chain Associate of Science Degree
Pending TBR approval. The Associate of Science (A.S.) in Supply Chain is a Tennessee Transfer Pathways (TTPs) Degree. All community college credits will count towards completion of the Transfer Pathway bachelor’s degree.
This curriculum brings together business concepts with logistics. Persons in this career analyze sourcing, purchasing, and transportation of supplies and goods.
Commercial Truck Driving Class A (CDL-A) Certificate
Commercial Truck Driving Class A (CDL-A) is a seven-week certificate program that requires 222 clock hours for completion and is designed to meet the needs of the trucking industry. Graduates are prepared to pass the Commercial Driving License (CDL) exam for Tennessee.
Required to operate any combination of vehicles with a gross combination weight rating (GVWR) of 26,001 or more pounds (Tractor-trailers (also known as Semi, Big Rig or 18-wheeler), Truck and trailer combinations, Tanker vehicles, Livestock carriers, Flatbeds. Most Class B and Class C vehicles, depending on endorsement requirements, etc.)
Commercial Truck Driving Class B (CDL-B) Certificate
Commercial Truck Driving Class B (CDL-B) is a three-week class that will prepare students to obtain their Class B license.
Required to operate any single vehicle that isn’t hitched to a trailer (Straight trucks, Large buses (city buses, tourist buses, and school buses), Segmented buses, Box trucks (including delivery trucks and furniture trucks), Dump trucks with small trailers, etc.)
Freight Brokerage Course
This course jump starts an entry level career in freight brokerage. 80 contact hours.
Freight brokers find carriers for shippers to haul their freight; this is one of the fastest growing sectors in the Chattanooga region.
