Classroom courses meet in a classroom or laboratory. The instructor uses the eLearn site to provide his/her contact information and a copy of the course syllabus in addition to using the eLearn site to supplement the course by posting handouts and Powerpoints. The instructor may request that course assignments be submitted through the eLearn drop box or via email. Tests can also be taken through the eLearn system.
Hybrid courses meet in a classroom for roughly half the credit hours of the course. The remaining course work is completed online. In some instances, Hybrid courses make it possible to complete two courses at the same time. For registration purposes, Hybrid courses can be identified by section numbers ending with H (example: ENGL_1010_H01).
Online courses do not meet in a classroom. They have section numbers ending with N (example: ENGL_1010_N01). These courses charge an additional per course fee. Students must be computer literate and have a minimum 56K of Internet access. For courses involving streaming media, a cable, DSL or broadband connection is highly recommended. Tests for these course are administered online, proctored in the Testing Center or at an agreed upon off-site location.
DVC courses involve a live broadcast with the instructor located at one location and the student located on campus, at home or somewhere else. DVC courses utilize eLive technology combined with eLearn course sites. DVC courses must be attended through an Internet connection at the designated class meeting time and day. These courses charge an additional per course fee. Students must be computer literate, have a headset and microphone, and a minimum 56K of Internet access. For courses involving streaming media, a cable, DSL or broadband connection is highly recommended. Test taking for DVC courses is done online, proctored in the Testing Center, or at an agreed upon off-site location.
RODP courses are fully online. Courses are offered by Tennessee Board of Regents institutions across the state in partnership with Chattanooga State. They have section numbers beginning with R (example: ENGL_1010_R50). Students should be aware that the RODP cut-off for class registration is usually a few days earlier than Chattanooga State’s. Also, the additional fee for taking RODP online classes is more than the fee for Chattanooga State online courses. The Chattanooga State Bookstore does not carry books for RODP courses. Students can purchase books for an RODP course at rodp.bkstr.com and login at elearn.rodp.org
