What is TECTA?

The Tennessee Early Childhood Training Alliance is a statewide, systematic training and professional recognition system to support and enhance the quality of early childhood education and school age childcare personnel in Tennessee.  The TECTA statewide training system provides early childhood personnel with access to affordable professional development.

The key to quality programs is the professional preparation of teaching and administrative personnel with whom children and youth spend a significant portion of their formative years.  The TECTA system is approved and supported by the TBR and the Tennessee Department of Human Services.

TECTA Orientation has been developed for the following audiences:

  • Center-based childcare providers (those working with children 3-5 years of age)

  • Childcare center directors and administrators

  • Family childcare providers

  • Infant/toddler childcare providers

  • School-age care providers

TECTA Orientation is free to anyone employed in a DHS or DOE licensed program.

  • You must attend ALL classes (30 hours) to receive a TECTA Certificate
  • Spaces are limited and enrollment is on a “first come” basis
  • Door prizes drawn at each class
  • Limited to three (3) participants per orientation per center
  • Mail or fax the Orientation Enrollment Request Form for each participant
  • A Confirmation letter will be sent to each enrolled participant

After completion of the 30-hour Orientation participants may proceed by enrolling into Early Childhood College Courses.  The first 4 college level courses are the path toward the Child Development Associate Credential (CDA).  These college courses transfer into the Associate of Applied Science Degree.  For further information on the four classes for the CDA, please see the link to the Career Lattice.  Each year financial assistance is dependant upon funds allocated by the State Grant.

After completing course requirements toward CDA or Associate Degree, funding may also be available for those seeking a higher degree in Early childhood Education.
