Apply to Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT)

All Tennessee College of Applied Technology applicants must Apply to the college using  Chattanooga State's Online Application  or Submit application in person to the TCAT Student Services Department in Room 20 of the TCAT.

TCAT students must be 18 years of age or 17 with a high school diploma or GED. Commercial Truck Driving students must be 21 years of age. For program testing and entrance requirements please refer to admissions test requirements.

If you are a first-time TCAT student or a former TCAT student who is seeking to be readmitted, an admissions checklist is provided below. However, several TCAT programs (Automation Mechatronics, Car Mechatronics, Commercial Truck Driving, Medical Assisting, Massage Therapy, Practical Nursing, Surgical Technology) have additional admission requirements and/or a separate application process. To learn more about the admission process to the program for which you are interested, please refer to the "Steps to Apply" section below.

Steps to Apply

Step 1: Apply to the college online or Submit application in person to the TCAT Student Services Department in Room 20 of the TCAT.

*TCAT students must be at least 18 years of age or 17 with a high school diploma or GED.

Step 2: Take the COMPASS Diagnostics Test

All first-time TCAT students - except those who are applying for Automotive Mechatronics, Car

Mechatronics, Medical Assisting, Massage Therapy, Practical Nursing and Surgical Technology - must take the COMPASS Diagnostic Tests in math and vocabulary.  The six programs previously mentioned have other test requirements and students should check with the TCAT Student Services Department before testing.

Prospective students who have previously attended college or have a college degree should submit a copy of his or her transcript to the TCAT division office for evaluation, as he or she may be exempt from the admissions test requirement.

Applicants who are required to test will receive a test admissions ticket when an application is submitted.

Step 3: Apply for Financial Aid

All prospective TCAT students who reside in Tennessee are encouraged to apply for the Wilder-Naifeh Technical Skills Grant by submitting a FAFSA. Complete the FAFSA at  www.fafsa.gov. Chattanooga State code: 003998.

Step 4: Submit health forms, academic transcripts and test scores.

All first-time TCAT students - except those who are applying for Commercial Truck Driving must submit health forms to the TCAT Student Services Department in room 20 of the TCAT.

Fill out and Print the following health forms

Submit health forms, official copies of academic transcripts and ACT, SAT, or COMPASS test scores.

Schedule a placement test if applicable.

Step 5: Schedule Appointment to Develop an Academic Plan

Students who pass the TCAT admissions test must visit the Student Services Department (TCAT 20) to meet with an academic advisor, as some programs require a special registration permit in order to register.

Step 6: Register, Pay and Confirm

Register for Classes

Using your A# and password provided by Chattanooga State, log in to Tiger Web to register for classes.

               Pay Your Tuition and Fees by the registration deadline to avoid having your classes automatically dropped.

Confirm Your Classes

Non-Financial Aid Student's classes are automatically confirmed once tuition and fees are paid. Financial Aid Students must log in to Tiger Web and confirm classes by the registration deadline.

Step 7: Obtain Credentials

All Chattanooga State students are required to have a Student ID and display a Parking Permit on their vehicle.

  • Parking Permit - Bursar's Office, Student Center, Room 140
