Reduced Hours for Rehabilitation Services
Students who are clients of Rehabilitation Services are typically required to
enroll for a minimum of 15 hours each semester. For some students with
disabilities, this is a very heavy class load, especially if the student is just
starting out in college.
Disabilities Support Services (DSS) staff can write letters to rehabilitation
counselors asking for approval of the student to take fewer than 15 hours.
Students are responsible for requesting the reduced hours letter each semester
they are enrolled at Chattanooga State and are taking fewer than 15 hours.
DSS will not write reduced hours letters for students who have not provided
documentation and have not registered with the office. In addition, the reason
for needing to take fewer hours must be based on the student’s disability.
Letters will not be written because of work schedules, family responsibilities,
athletic team practices, or other conditions that are not related to the
student’s disability.
