Submissions

Submissions for the 2008 issue will be accepted beginning September 2007 continuing through February 15, 2008. We accept submissions from Chattanooga State students, faculty, staff, and alumni, and from members of the local regional community.

Guidelines

  • We accept
    • short fiction (up to 2000 words),
    • creative non-fiction (up to 1000 words),
    • poetry (a single poem should not exceed three typed pages),
    • black/white photographs.
  • Include a cover letter identifying the name of the writer, a mailing address, phone number, and e-mail address. The cover letter should also list the titles of the works submitted. Include in the cover letter two or three sentences about yourself, including
    • Your connection to Chattanooga State,
    • Your current employment or career plans, and
    • Your interest in the creative arts.
  • Include three typed copies of each manuscript being submitted (copies of submissions will not be returned)
    • Use Times New Roman font
    • Avoid strange typographical features or color. Italics to highlight a word or phrase for emphasis is acceptable.
    • The first of the three copies should include the writer's name. The other two copies should not.
  • Include electronic media containing all of the submissions and the cover letter (c.f., CD or flash drive). Electronic media cannot be returned. Files should be in Rich Text Format format (.rtf).
  • You may submit up to four works.
  • Photographic submissions should also include a cover letter (see above). The photographer and title of the photograph should be written legibly on the back lower left hand side of the photograph.

Authors retain copyright to their materials but give the Phoenix the right to publish accepted submissions in the print and online issues of the Phoenix.
