Frequently asked Questions about Chattanooga State Sequatchie Site
What classes do you offer?
Do I get the same credit at this campus as I would on the main campus?
Yes, any class you take at the Sequatchie Valley site is the same as the class offered at the Chattanooga campus. For example, if you take English 1010 with us, it will be the same in content and credit earned as English 1010 taken at the main campus. Contact the Advising Office for more information.
Will my credits from Chattanooga State transfer to a four-year college?
Yes. Many students complete their first two years of college at Chattanooga State then transfer to a four-year college. We advise students to check with the four-year college they plan to attend to be sure they take the required courses at Chattanooga State. For example, some four-year colleges require a course in American History while others require one in World History.
Can I go to school at night?
Yes, Monday thru Thursday. Please view schedule.
Can I take some classes at the Sequatchie Valley and some at the Chattanooga campus during the same semester?
Yes, as long as you can arrange your schedule to do so, you may take any class any place it is available.
Why do I have to take a placement test?
Placement tests are given for your benefit.
We want students to enter a class in which they can do well. These tests
help us put you in the right class for you. If the class is too easy, you
may be frustrated and bored and actually not do well. If a class is too
hard, either because you don’t have much background in it or you’ve
forgotten what you once knew, you may become discouraged and lose
self-confidence. The test is free and you can take it by appointment at
the Sequatchie Valley site. Students under 21 must take the ACT.
Please call the
Testing
Center at 697-3367 for information.
Will there be an instructor there, or is
the class taught via satellite?
You will have a real live instructor unless you specifically sign up for an on-line or directed studies class. These instructors must meet the same qualifications and use the same syllabus as instructors on the main campus.
Can I receive financial aid?
Most of our students receive some sort of
financial assistance. You must fill out a form available from the
financial
aid office,
which works with all students requesting help. We strongly advise you to
start the financial aid process early for best results. Students can
also get assistance applying for financial aid through the
Educational Opportunity Center. Appointments are available at the
Sequatchie/Bledsoe site with
EOC counselors.
Do you offer any tutoring?
A writing lab is available on site. Contact Patricia Holloway at 554-4027 or patricia.holloway@chattanoogastate.edu for times available. The main campus offers a math lab and a reading and writing lab in the IMC building over the library.
I’m in high school – can I take anything at the Sequatchie Valley campus yet?
Yes, if your ACT scores are high enough in the subject you wish to study, you may take a class through dual-enrollment, which allows you to receive both a college credit and a high school credit. There must be enough students from your school who want the class in order to offer it. Depending on what is requested, we can offer English, psychology or American Government. Other subjects might be offered if qualified instructors are available and requests are made.
