Application/Selection Process

Application Procedures

  1. Attend an Information Session.
    To provide students with more detail on the courses included in the nursing curriculum, admission requirements and the selection process, plan to attend a free information session.


  2. Complete admissions procedure to Chattanooga State.
    • Submit application to Admissions Office ($15 non-refundable fee).
    • Submit official high school transcript or GED transcript.
    • Submit official transcripts from any college(s) attended.

      Note to applicants: It is your responsibility to:
      • Verify with Records Office the receipt of any transcript and/or transfer credit.
      • Request evaluation of transfer credits by the Records Office. Transcripts will be evaluated for transfer credits only after all transcripts are received and admission requirements are complete.
      • Provide a copy of college transcripts as part of your official nursing program application prior to the application deadline. Points in the selection process will not be awarded for courses if the transcript is received after the application deadline date.
      • Take ACT, SAT or COMPASS entrance/placement test.

  3. Schedule appointment with Nursing Advisor to develop an academic plan.
    This will provide the student with a semester-by-semester plan for scheduling nursing curriculum courses. This appointment should be scheduled following the completion of the College Admission Process. Call 493-8740 to schedule an appointment.
     
  4. Take General Ed and Support Courses.
    Students are encouraged to take general education and support courses prior to entrance into the nursing course sequence. Click here for more detailed advising information.
     
  5. Complete Nursing Program Application
    A complete nursing program application consists of a Nursing Application Form, copies of high school/college transcripts and the results of a nursing preadmission test. Submit Application Form to Nursing Program office (or Allied Health office) by the application deadline: Day/Night - March 15; LPN to RN and Paramedic to RN Transition - January 15.
    • Provide NET/HOBET test score (must be within two years). Test must be taken by the application deadline. If test is taken anywhere but Chattanooga State, an official copy of the scores must be on file by the deadline.
    • Provide copy of high school transcript with the nursing application if it verifies chemistry prerequisite.
    • Provide a copy of all college transcripts other than Chattanooga State.
It is the student’s responsibility to see that all application materials for admission to the college and the nursing program are on file and the NET/HOBET test is scheduled prior to the deadline date.

Selection Information

Admission into the Nursing Program is a competitive process utilizing an objective point system. Selection into the program is based on a comparative evaluation of test scores, transcript and other application information.

Points are awarded for: To be included in the applicant pool, the student must have: Refer to the Points Calculation form to calculate your points. Since the application deadlines are in the spring semester, the admissions committee only considers courses completed up to and including the fall semester prior to the application deadline. Composition of the class will reflect diversity based on age, gender and race.

Enrollment Requirements

To be eligible for enrollment following acceptance into the Nursing Program, the student must have met all program prerequisites.

If some of the prerequisites have not been completed at the time of class selection decisions, a conditional acceptance may be made.

All prerequisites must be completed prior to enrollment in the first nursing course.
