Mike Magnuson


Mike Magnuson teaches at Southern Illinois University. He is the author of two novels, The Right Man for the Job (1997) and The First Gospels (1998), and two memoirs, Lummox: The Evolution of a Man (2002) and Heft on Wheels: A Field Guide to Doing a 180 (2004) about turning his life around through bicycling.  He received his MFA in fiction writing from the University of Florida, where he studied with Padgett Powell. Featured in an interview recently on NPR, he has written for Esquire, GQ, Writer's Digest, Men's Health, Backpacker, Fiction Writer, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, and Bicycling where he is now also a contributing editor. An avid cyclocross racer, he has finished in the top ten in several races he has entered.
