Realtime Reporting: ScopistWhat is a Scopist? Scopists are hired by court reporters to edit and proofread transcripts while the reporters work in court or depositions and, according to the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA), there are an estimated 50,000 court reporters in the United States. Scoping is an ideal career for someone who needs or prefers to work from home. A scopist uses a computer to edit transcripts, which is transferred via the Internet anywhere in the United States or worldwide. Therefore, the job opportunities are not limited to Chattanooga and the surrounding area. The Scopist Diploma is a Tennessee Technology Center (TTC) program that consists of 1290 clock hours. The Realtime Reporting: Scopist program is a full-time day program with 450 clock hours in the Fall and Spring semesters and 390 clock hours in the Summer semester. Classes meet from 8:00-2:30, Monday through Friday, with 30 minutes for lunch. All classes for the Scopist program are conducted at the Chattanooga State East Campus on Lee Highway (697-2551). Requirements for Admission into the Scopist Program:
A limited number of students are accepted each fall semester so start the process now! Upon completion of the Scopist Diploma, students will be able to enter the Realtime Reporting program with 24 hours (the first year of classes) of articulated credit toward an A.A.S. degree in Realtime Reporting in one of three concentrations: Judicial/Court Reporting, Broadcast Captioning, or CART (Communication Access Realtime Translation) Provider.
