AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY

Automotive technicians repair and service motor vehicles. The technician must be able to make a quick and accurate diagnosis and have good reasoning ability. Also, the technician will use highly sophisticated electrical and computerized tools of which he/she must have a thorough command.

Students entering Chattanooga State's automotive technology program will be working toward Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification in the following areas: (click here to see summary of required hours).  ASE testing is available on campus through the ACT Testing Center located in the Center for Business, Industry and Health Programs (CBIH) building.

Fall Semester (450 hours)

engine performance

Spring Semester (450 hours)

steering and suspensions systems

manual transmission and drive train

automatic transmission and transaxles

Summer Semester (390 hours)

heating, ventilation, and air conditioning

troubleshooting and rebuilding brake systems

engine repair and rebuilding 

Graduates find career opportunities as a Technician, Shop Foreman, Service Advisor, and/or Service Manager.
