PROGRAM OF STUDY
FIRST SEMESTER: Introduction to Nursing
Preclinical theory includes a study of vocational relations, anatomy and physiology, normal nutrition, nursing principles and skills, beginning math for medication, first aid and CPR, and introduction to medical/surgical nursing. The first clinical experience is obtained in the nursing home.
SECOND SEMESTER: Medical/Surgical Nursing
This course is a study of nursing care as it applies to the care of the hospitalized adult with medical and/or surgical problems. This includes disease process, nursing care, diet therapy and pharmacology. Clinical experience is obtained in the acute care, hospital setting.
THIRD SEMESTER: Specialties in Nursing
Students are introduced to specialty areas of nursing: Maternal and Gynecological Nursing, and Pediatric Nursing. A final intensive clinical practice experience is designed to prepare the student to enter the work force.
