Scholarships at Chattanooga State
Please carefully read all of the following information
concerning the different kinds of scholarship opportunities
at Chattanooga State.
Foundation Scholarships
Foundation Scholarships are provided by the Chattanooga
State Technical Community College Foundation and private
donors. Scholarships provided by private donors vary in
academic requirements and award amounts. Please review the
Scholarship criteria for more information.
Academic Scholarships
Honors Scholarships
- Must have a 3.5 grade point average (GPA).
- Must have ACT score of 25 or greater.
- Required to maintain both a semester and cumulative grade
point average of 3.5 or greater.
- Honors scholarships cover the cost of in-state tuition and
fees and provide a book allowance of $150 per semester.
Valedictorian/Salutatorian Scholarships
- Valedictorians and salutatorians who apply by the priority
deadline of February 15, in the year of their graduation
from high school, may be awarded a Foundation or Academic
Service scholarship.
ACT Scholarships
- Students of any academic major who score a 23 or greater on
the ACT test.
- Recipient must maintain a 3.0 semester and cumulative grade
point average.
Program Scholarships
- Minimum of 2.9 grade point average or GED score of 60
required.
- Minimum ACT score of 19 required.
- Must maintain a 2.5 semester and cumulative grade point
average.
Foundation Performance Scholarships
- Minimum of 2.0 grade point average or GED score of 50
required
- Must maintain a 2.0 grade point average.

- Specific guidelines based on requirements of scholarships.

Scholarship Guidelines
Scholarship Eligibility ■ Please read this section
carefully!
- The priority deadline for scholarships is February 15.
Applications will continue to be accepted after that date
and awards made if funds are available.
- Applicant must complete a Chattanooga State admissions
application, pay applicable fee and choose a program of
study (declare major).
- Students are encouraged strongly to complete a Free
Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at
www.fafsa.ed.gov/ .
- To receive full consideration for your application, you
will need to:
- Have your high school transcript, GED score or college
transcript (if applicable) mailed to the Chattanooga State
Records Office.
- Meet the testing requirements for your area of study.
- Submit a letter with the following information:
- Explain why you chose to attend Chattanooga State
- Reasons for applying for a scholarship
- Career goals
- Recent work history
- Extracurricular activities
- Financial need (financial need is not a consideration for
all scholarships)
- Submit two letters of reference, i.e. clergy, teacher,
principal.
- Complete a letter of thanks to the Foundation within 30
days of receiving award. Future payments may be cancelled if
letter is not received in Financial Aid Office.
- Students must apply for renewal each academic year by
submitting a letter that addressees the same criteria
outlined in the initial application
- Scholarships traditionally are not available for the
summer semester, but the Foundation Board may consider
special requests.
Academic Service Scholarship Guidelines
Scholarship Eligibility ■ Please read this section
carefully!
Applications received in the Chattanooga State Financial Aid
Office prior to the February 15 deadline will be given
priority. Selections are made on the basis of academic
achievement. Economic need will be considered as a factor
only when all other conditions appear equal.
- A Chattanooga State Academic Services Scholarship recipient
must meet all of the following qualifications:
- Students must have a cumulative high school grade point
average (GPA) of 2.9 or a minimum of 60 on the GED.
- Students must enroll for a minimum of six (6) credit hours
each semester (Awards will be pro-rated based on the number
of credit hours for which the student is enrolled).
- Student must not have an associate’s or bachelor’s degree.
- Students may not be enrolled as a “special” student.
- Transfer and other than first-time freshman students must
have completed twelve (12) credit hours with a minimum
cumulative college GPA of 2.5.
- Students with less than twelve (12) credit hours will be
considered first-time freshmen.
- The Academic Service Scholarship covers in-state tuition and
fees and provides an allowance for books and supplies. In
return, the student is required to complete a work
assignment as mandated by the Tennessee Board of Regents.
- A scholarship may be renewed each semester if the student
meets the following qualifications:
- Enrolls and maintains at least six (6) credit hours each
semester.
- Maintains a 2.5 cumulative grade point average with no
semester average below 2.5.
- Satisfactorily completes the required work obligation each
semester.
- Failure to meet these qualifications any semester will
result in forfeiture of the
Academic Service Scholarship. A
student who forfeits his/her scholarship for any of the
above reasons may be eligible for consideration after the
lapse of at least one full semester.
Should the student not attend any semester when the
scholarship is offered, the scholarship will be cancelled.
The student must reapply.
