Sculpture
The Sculpture program offers courses in Stone Carving and Outdoor Sculpture Fabrication. Stone Carving focuses on the direct method of carving alabaster and soapstone, and it requires the use of hand, electric, and pneumatic tools. Outdoor Sculpture Fabrication teaches principles of metal sculpture based on the fundamentals of public art. The course includes designing art for public areas and the metal fabricating of the art work.
Chattanooga State is also home to the Outdoor Museum of Art (OMA). The OMA is a sculpture garden on four acres in the heart of campus. It rotates two exhibitions each year of national and international sculptures. The curator and co-founder of the OMA is sculptor, John Henry.
