Outlining
Students are frequently asked to create formal outlines. Most research papers require formal outlines, and sometimes teachers may ask students to write outlines for other papers or even as separate assignments. A good outline clearly lays out the writer's organizational plan and reveals the major and minor ideas being explored in the paper.
