The developmental Reading department continues the Townsend Press Scholarship program. Students in Developmental reading read novels provided by Townsend Press. The novels include Jane Eyre, Tom Sawyer, Dracula, Up From Slavery, Gulliver's Travels, White Fang, Tarzan of the Apes, and others. After reading the novel, students meet with a reading instructor to discuss the novel and verify that they have read it. Students who read 10 of the books receive a $100 scholarship from Townsend Press. Students who read 20 of the books receive a $200 scholarship. Students who read 30, receive a $300 scholarship. Quite a few Chattanooga State students have earned $100 scholarships, several have earned $200, and one has earned $300.
