The Chattanooga State Humanities and Fine Arts Division strives to provide learning experiences to help students succeed in college and enrich their lives.

 

Fine Arts: The disciplines within the Fine Arts department offer students the opportunity to understand and explore the world of art, visual, theatric, and music. For more information about the programs in the Fine Arts Department, contact Darrin Hassevoort.

Humanities: The disciplines within the Humanities department offer Chattanooga State students the opportunity to improve written and oral communication skills, acquire competency in a foreign language, explore the world of ideas, and expand their understanding of their literary and cultural heritage. Message from the Vice President of Academic Affairs: A grade of "C" or better is required in all prerequisite courses and in specific courses listed in the program summary of required hours.

Congratulations to adjunct instructor Karie Ballentine whose first collection of poetry Gathering Stones has been published by Celtic Cat. Gathering Stones is a look at Ireland and Karie's Irish heritage. Barnes and Noble at Hamilton Place is selling the book as is Amazon.com. For more information, visit Celtic Cat Publishing

Congratulations to Dakota Brown - a recent graduate of the Professional Actor Training Program and a Chatt State Joe - whose play "Abandon All Hope, Mikey-Mike" was named Outstanding Play by a Young Playwright in the Chattanooga Theatre Centre's 2008 New Plays Festival.

The Meacham Writers Workshop web site and the Phoenix web site have new looks and include multimedia files.
