ABOUT DANCE AT CHATTANOOGA STATE
Chattanooga State Dance Department offers a comprehensive dance program that consists of:
- Technical training (courses in Modern, Ballet, and Jazz)
- Creative expression (Dance Composition and Dance Performance)
- Understanding of dance as an art form (Introduction to Dance)
- Teaching of dance (Intro to Dance Education)
- Beginning and intermediate levels to suit students’ ability and interest
This dance program is interested in embodying a new consciousness in dance, lifting it from only skill-oriented learning to supporting the relationship of the student inside knowledge, practice and community awareness.
Objectives:
- Strengthen personal accountability
- Increase informed judgment
- Develop cooperative and collaborative practices
- Enhance self-improvement and reflection
These life skills are also invaluable in the development of dancer as
globally-aware citizen, an important goal when educating the whole human
being. If the desire of this dance program is to encourage globally-aware
dancers, this brings the traditionally underrepresented field of dance into
a leadership position for the development of actively involved citizens.
