DANCE CURRICULUM

DANCE 1151: INTRO TO DANCE
Introduction to Dance exposes the many functions dance provides in cultures around the world. Developing a general appreciation of the art of dance, the concentration is on dance’s ability to communicate. From different cultural relationships to historical figures of dance, from old work to new, the focus is on theoretical understandings. Recognition of different cultural dance forms, styles, and genres are applied.

DANC 1821: MODERN DANCE I
This course introduces students to the art of modern dance focusing on basic techniques, concepts and principles. Modern Dance I provides an introduction to eventually attaining an understanding of modern dance and a general appreciation of the art of dance. Exposure of many historical modern dancers and their choreography will support application and further theoretical understandings. Concentration on movement fundamentals that develop flexibility, strength, control, coordination, endurance and form are applied. Critical application to the choreographic aspect of modern dance will be introduced.

DANC 1201: DANCE COMPOSITION I
Dance Composition I provides an introduction to eventually attaining a foundation and understanding of choreography, including a general appreciation of choreographers in dance. Exposure to many historical principles of composing dances supports application and further theoretical understandings in this field of study. Concentration on choreographic fundamentals that develop creative and critical thinking skills, as well as physical well-being are applied.

DANCE 1101: DANCE PERFORMANCE I
Dance Performance I provides an understanding of the role practice, problem solving, synthesizing perceptives, and evaluation process increasing one’s performance experiences and general appreciation of the art of dance. Furthering theoretical understandings for influencing social change is encouraged. Critical application of reflection to the dance performances will also be introduced.
