Gaming Technology Frequently Asked Questions

Do your instructors have industry experience?

One of our instructors previously partnered with Valve Software, using their Source Engine, and has also worked with NVidia, Havoc, and IDV. Our new art instructor, Phil Fortin, has been in the 3D art world since graduating from Full Sail several years ago.

Does the department have contacts in the game industry? If so, have you been able to place any students into jobs in the industry?

We do not have any official affiliation with a studio and we have not graduated anyone from the program yet, so we have not had any placements to date. No schools can promise placements.

What technologies are we providing?

We will be using either the Unreal Engine or CryEngine level editor for our projects throughout the program. The Game Art Concentration will also use Maya, ZBrush, and Adobe After Effects.

What kind of projects can a student expect to participate in?

There will be multiple projects along the way, culminating in a capstone project at the end. Some will involve just artists or just programmers, while others will involve teamwork between the two disciplines. Everything produced can be used in a portfolio.

Which coding/scripting languages are being taught?

C++ primarily, with use of DirectX libraries for C++ PCs and Xbox since they still have the greatest market share for games. Scripting languages will be determined based on projects assigned.

How is your program different from others?

Our program is focused on one things -- TOOLS! Our goal is to provide an affordable means to teach you the tools of the trade, so that you can better pursue additional education or immediately get a job in the game or related industry (such as military, medical, or space simulation, film, or advertising).
