Executive Board Minutes
Notes from BCIS Advisory Board Mtg. September 19, 2007
Kenny Smith requested Chester Bankston to open with a prayer
Dr. Haddock welcomed everyone and turned meeting over to Kenny Smith.
Minutes were approved from the July 6th meeting.
New Business
Mickey Arp introduced Larry Morrison and made a motion to replace Doug
Daily as Plumbing Chair. Motion carried.
Chair News
Ken Owensby something about 10 here at Chatt State.
Tim McGhee reported that Gloria Moore is no longer serving as High
School Liaison. We will need to replace her. Briggs Smith said he would
find a candidate for that position.
EPB Judy Bennett regarding Fiber optics
AGC has supplied over $13,000 in student scholarships. $1500 in private
donations. For 2006 $22,000 in student scholarships.
Introduced Daniel K as a recipient of one of those scholarships. Daniel
offered thanks for scholarship.
Construction Management partnership with UTC. Moving forward also with
Cleveland State. 3 way partnership to increase education workforce.
We are on the map, covering gap, high school to grad school in
construction ed. MOA 2/3rds done and waiting on response from UTC.
Shelia Thompson distributed a packet. Wants everyone’s contact
information to help our students find jobs. Ramona Daugherty added that
students will be drug tested before they start our program, which will
keep the employers hiring cost down.
Mike Ricketts and Tim McGhee will be attending Construction Career Days
in Knoxville. Would we like to do something like that here? Could be
here on campus, would promote industry and expose students.
Plumbing and Masonry was started this semester.
Pre-apprenticeship program also started. Rodney Smith is instructor.
Would like to form a student AGC chapter. Would be a good network for
our students.
CMT up 100%. BCT up 100%.
Dr. Barrott wanted Tim to address what occurred with the sale of the
house. We will now go to a sealed bid process. Minimum bid $20,000.
Kenny Smith reported that residential work in down, but commercial and
industrial are up.
Briggs Smith reported that 1. Career Crunch will be November 13 and 14
at CSTCC. 3500 8th graders will be in attendance. 2. Outcomes for
students built in…..3. 84% graduation rate.
Alan Gentry from Cleveland State addressed the board regarding their
energy efficiency building program. 36 enrolled in the program. Has
shown increased high school interest. Working with alternative fuels as
well.
Kenny Smith announced next Advisory Board meeting date as December 2,
2007.
