Men's Basketball Coaches
Head Coach: Jay Price
Jay Price is beginning his sixth season as the Tigers Head Basketball Coach and offers a special, personable style that builds on his experience as a playing sensation and seasoned head coach at all levels from high school through the professional ranks. Coach Price still plays at a very high level and is able to hone the court skills of his players through a hands-on, no-nonsense approach. Coach Price works individually with all of his players to assure that they reach their full potential as individuals and as a team. Coach Price believes in teaching his team to play basketball the right way, but more importantly, he is committed to mentoring his players to approach life the right way – with exacting attention to academics and disciplined accountability in all their affairs.
Coach Price initially came to prominence within the game of basketball as a stand-out player with Brainerd High School from 1986-1988. He next played for the University of Tennessee for four years before embarking on a four-year professional career. Coach Price then began coaching and has served as head coach for Notre Dame High School and for professional teams before coming to Chattanooga State. As Tigers head coach, Jay Price has earned many honors including TJCCAA coach of the year 3 times and has led teams to championship appearances.
Coach Price’s experience in and knowledge of the game of basketball has also led to the creation of many important relationships that have served him well. Coach Price has served as a small business owner, Director of Programs and Sports with the YMCA, and as public relations and marketing director for Allan Houston Enterprises. These insider relationships have also proven invaluable to Coach Price in assisting Chattanooga State graduates move on within the game and business of basketball.
Jay and his wife (Angela) have three children: Jala (9); Kennedy (5); and Alexis (2).
