Chattanooga State Recruiting Information

Priorities:

Academic Information ( click on this for questions / answers )

  • Chattanooga State is a fully accredited ( SACS ) community college with 40 years of service and education.

  • Student-athletes recommended to take 15 hours per semester at a in-state rate of $1250.00. Out of state waivers are also available.

  • Advising is done by the AD and Asst. AD who have over 15 years experience between them.

  • Labs are available / Study Hall for the players is Mandatory / Grade checks sent out every 3-4 weeks.
     
  • Classes are small in nature and instructors are friendly and helpful.  More attention to individual students.
     
  • Emphasis is on taking the meat and potato classes that will transfer anywhere and allow easy transition.
     
  • Classes taken in Fall will not be missed, classes in spring will be missed as infrequently as possible due to games.

Athletic Information

  • 2 seasons are emphasized: Fall and Spring
     
  • Fall is divided into 2 segments: On field and Off field
     
  • On field goes from end of August through middle of October with practices and scrimmage games ( around 25-30 )
     
  • Rankings will be done bi-monthly (coaches) and at the end of the fall on field (players)
     
  • Smaller number of players brought in with the attitude of great amounts of playing time and learning time. Looking to bring in around 35 players total.
     
  • Off season begins in mid October and goes through Xmas break
     
  • Weight lifting done 3 days per week with rigorous circuit program designed specifically for baseball needs
     
  • Running distance will be done after weight lifting with runs of 1, 2, or 3 miles that are timed and order of finish recorded for ranking purposes
     
  • Pitchers will throw 2 days / week minimum and hitters will hit 2-3 days per week minimum to work on corrections and mechanics. Indoor facility available for use anytime.
     
  • Good time to get additional work in on classes.
     
  • Final ranking sent out over Xmas with on field and off field activities EVERYONE is ranked and evaluated
     
  • Spring begins early in January as players return and begin work to pick up where the fall left off
     
  • Season begins in early February and we play 56 games ( NJCAA maximum )
     
  • Conference games begin late February and are 3 game series going 1 9-inning game Fridays and 2 7-inning games on Saturday
     
  • 10 teams in conference consisting of: Cleveland State, Columbia State, Dyersburg State, Hiwassee College, Jackson State, Motlow State, Roane State, Southwest Tennessee CC, Volunteer State, Walters State
     
  • All teams go to the post season with the top 5 getting an automatic bye into the double elimination part and the bottom six having a "play-in" game to get into the double elimination part.  The site for this is chosen annually.
     
  • Winner of that plays Georgia winner 2 out of 3 to go to Grand Junction, CO ( NJCAA World Series )
     
  • We travel by charter buses to all away games and cover hotel expenses and meals.

  • We have a Rawlings team sponsorship in place.

  • Players receive annually:   jackets, pullovers, bat bags, sweatshirts, multiple sleeves and hats, spikes, turf shoes, jerseys with their name on the back, batting gloves, and more.

Socialization Information

  • Players live off campus in apartments within 8-10 minutes away
     
  • 2 bedroom / 2 bathroom usually will hold up to 4 players at reduced rate

  • We will meet in July to arrange roommates and lease agreements
     
  • Priorities MUST be maintained or problems will occur
     
  • Food services are provided on campus as well as in apartments
     
  • Scholarships are available both through athletic money and through academic money
     
  • Academic money is based on a 2.9 HS GPA and maintaining a 2.5 GPA per semester at CSTCC.
     
  • These are awarded on a merit basis as deemed by the coaching staff
     
Remember: We are only going to bring in ( scholarship, non-scholarship ) those players who we feel can compete at this level for this program. Once we have satisfied that number of players we are finished recruiting for this year.
