2008 Tiger Baseball Game Summary

February 9th at Gordon College

The 2008 addition of the Chattanooga State Tigers took the road to open the season at Gordon College in Barnesville Georgia.  After the 3 hour drive the Tigers tried to get the '08 season off on the right foot but were unable to accomplish this goal.  Sophomore transfer Bren Scheuhler took the mound and delivered 4 1-hit innings while striking out 5 and walking only 1.  He left the game with the score 1-0 Tigers as they scored in the 4th as Beau Geren was hit by pitch and then moved up on Kendal Wells' single to left field.  After a fly out that moved Geren to 3B, Garret Burgess drove in the first run with a fielder's choice.  Gordon responded with 4 runs in the 5th as Chad Reeves and Lee Henry were roughed up some.  The Tigers came back and scored 3 in the 6th inning to tie the score as Garret Burgess hit a one-out triple and then Scott Guest drove him in with an infield single.  Pinch hitter Blake Hixson had another infield single and then after a popped up bunt for an out, Heath Cheverton and Geren each singled to drive in runs.  Unfortunately Wells flew out with the go-ahead run on 3B.  Gordon scored one run in the bottom of the 6th and the Tigers couldn't respond in the top of the 7th so the game ended 5-4.

Game 2 was more of the same as the Tigers sent freshman Zach Driggers to the mound and he delivered 5 innings allowing only 2 runs and striking out 1 with no walks.  John Howard relieved him and gave up one run in his only inning as he allowed 2 hits.  The Tigers struggled at the plate as they only got 6 hits for the game and scored one run in the 3rd to tie the game at 1.  Pat Jones hit a leadoff single and then moved to third base on two fielder's choices.  Heath Cheverton picked him up with a key two out single.  Gordon scored one in the fourth and 6th to close out the scoring at 3-1.  Heath Cheverton had 4 hits for the day and Pat Jones had 3.  The Tigers will host Rio Grande from Ohio on Sunday the 10th at home.

February 10th vs. Rio Grande

The Tigers came home and opened up their 2008 home schedule with a double-dip vs. Rio Grande JV.  Coty Green took the mound and threw 4 innings allowing only 2 hits while striking out 5.  Green had been out with a case of the flu-bug and his return was much needed.  Brian Satterfield came in and finished up the game with 2 innings of relief while striking out 4 and allowing 2 hits. The scoring started for the Tigers in the 2nd inning as after making two outs Edwin Borbon hit a double to left and Garret Burgess followed it with another double to left.  After two infield errors Scott Guest hit a single to close out the inning and scoring.  The Tigers scored 2 more in the 3rd and 1 more in the fourth.  Bren Schuehler and Burgess had big hits in the 3rd and Beau Geren drove one in during the 4th inning.  The game was finished in the bottom of the 6th as the Tigers erupted for 5 runs behind a big home run to center field by freshman Garret Burgess.  The final score was 12-1.

Game two opened up with Bradley Central freshman Corey Davidson on the mound and he threw 3 solid innings only allowing 1 hit while striking out 6.  Bradden Scott followed him and delivered 2 scoreless innings while striking out 5.  The Tigers scored 1 run in the first inning as Heath Cheverton doubled and came around to score on an error.  In the 2nd inning the Tigers plated 4 runs as a pair of walks opened the inning and then Aaron Short singled in a pair of runs and was plated as Seve Alvarez doubled to left field.  In the 3rd inning the Tigers blew the game wide open as they plated 7 runs.  Big hits came from Edwin Borbon, Alvarez, and Dexter Scudgins.  The final score was 12-1 and this makes the Tigers 2-2 overall.  They open up on Friday in conference at home versus Volunteer State at 2pm.  Saturdays doubleheader will be at 12 pm.

February 15 - 16 vs. Volunteer State

The defending conference champion Tigers took on the always difficult Pioneers of Volunteer State.  Head Coach Mike Crossland brought in another tough version of the Pioneers and they have become a foe that the Tigers know all too well as they have played each other 8 times in the past 11 conferences games.  Game one put freshman Zach Driggers on the hill and things didn't start off too well for the freshman from Walker Valley HS.  Driggers allowed 4 runs in the first inning and the Tigers scored 1 in the bottom of the 2nd inning behind a big hit by freshman Garret Burgess.  The Pioneers scored another in the 3rd to make it 5-1 and then the Tigers began to get their offense working.  Bradden Scott came in and threw 3 shutout innings followed by Brian Satterfield, Seve Alvarez and then Lee Henry to hold the Pioneers to no more runs.  In the 4th the Tigers scored 1 and again in the 5th inning.  Ryan Williams drove one in on a sacrifice and then Heath Cheverton scored on an error by the pitcher to make it 5-3.  The Tigers exploded for 4 runs in the 6th as Williams singled followed by a Scott Guest single, a Cheverton single and a ringing double by Beau Geren.  The Tigers plated 4 more in the 8th to seal the game up as Guest tripled, Cheverton singled as did Geren, Blake Hixson and Kendal WellsEdwin Borbon chipped in a double to conclude the scoring for the inning.  The Tigers won 11-5 in a rousing comeback victory.

Game two was more of the same as Bren Schuehler took the mound for the Tigers and started off like the others had left off from Friday.  He threw 3 scoreless innings and then faltered some as they scored 2 in the 4th and 3 in the 5th.  The Tigers had jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 3rd inning as Guest hit a triple to right center field followed by a walk and an infield single to Cheverton.  A little manipulating on the bases and the Tigers had their 2 runs.  Unfortunately the Pioneers jumped back to a 5-2 lead and the Tigers had to start "chipping" back in to the game.  They scored 1 in the 5th inning as Severino Alvarez hit a booming HR to right center field.  In the 6th the offense really got going as Blake Hixson walked and Edwin Borbon singled to centerfield.  Garret Burgess also walked and then pinch-hitter Erik Garza hit a 2 strike double to deep right field.  After a strikeout, Alvarez hit a single and then after another out, Beau Geren delivered the crushing blow with a Grand Slam to deep left center field to make the score 9-5.  Lee Henry came on in relief of Chad Reeves who got the win and finished the game out with a scoreless 7th inning.

Game three promised more of the same fireworks.  The Pioneers again jumped out to a 1-0 lead off of starter Coty Green as he battled to find the zone. The Tigers then returned the favor as they plated 3 in the bottom of the first inning.  Seve Alvarez hit a single and then was erased on a fielders choice.  Beau Geren hit a run scoring double to left field and then Bren Scheuhler drove him in with a single to center field.  Scheuhler was plated on a single by Kendal Wells.  The Pioneers tied the game in the 3rd inning with a couple runs scored after an outfield error and then added 1 more in the 4th inning to take the lead 4-3.  The added 2 more in the 5th inning and had a 6-3 lead and were cruising when the bats came alive again for the Tigers.  After an out was made, Scott Guest hit an infield single followed by a single by Alvarez and four more by Pat Jones, Heath Cheverton, Beau Geren and pinch-hitter Erik Garza.  Garza's drove in 2 runs giving him 4 RBI'S for the 2 at bats.  This put the Tigers ahead 7-6.  The never-say-die Pioneers hit a solo HR in the top of the 7th inning off of Corey Davidson, who had thrown wonderfully in relief.  Lee Henry was summoned and finished the inning out to keep the score at 7-7 in the bottom of the 7th.  After an out was made, Beau Geren walked and then promptly stole 2B.  As pinch-hitter Dexter Scudgins struck out for the 2nd out of the inning, Geren stole 3B.  With Kendal Wells at the plate and the count 2-2, Geren bluffed down the 3B line and drew a balk from the Pioneer pitcher to score the winning run.  The final score was 8-7.  This makes the Tigers 5-2 on the young season and 3-0 in conference play.  They will host the Gadsden State baseball team on Tuesday at 2 pm and then travel to nationally-ranked Walters State for their next conference series this weekend.

February 19th vs. Gadsden State

The Cardinals from Gadsden State Community College came to visit the Tigers on a cold, raw, windy day and the game started off slowly and then finished quicker.  Dalton HS freshman, Jordan Dean, started for the Tigers and delivered 4 solid innings allowing only 1 run and 2 hits while striking out 4 and walking 3.  Dean performed well considering the elements and it being his first time out on the mound this spring.  The Tigers scored one in the 4th inning right after Gadsden had scored one in the top half of the inning.  Beau Geren reached on an infield single and moved on a Bren Scheuhler walk and a Coty Green sacrifice bunt.  He then scored on a shallow hit sacrifice fly by Edwin Borbon to tie the score.  Lewis Dortch came on in relief of Dean and threw 2 sterling innings not allowing a run and only giving up 1 hit while K'ing 2 and walking none.  The Tigers blew it open in the 6th as Heath Cheverton, Geren, Jeremy Fitzgerald all had singles and then Coty Green ripped a scorching double down the left field line to plate two guys.  Edwin Borbon then hit another single and the Tigers scored 4 all together.  They followed that with 6 in the 7th as Seve Alvarez walked, Cheverton singled and Fitzgerald, Green and Borbon all walked.  Garret Burgess, Aaron Short and Scott Guest all singled to close the game out at 11-1.  Bradden Scott threw the top half of the inning in relief of Zeke Owen who started the inning and struggled throwing strikes.  This makes the Tigers 6-2 overall and readies them for their trip to Morristown and Walters State.

February 23-24 at Walters State

The Chatt State Tigers rolled in to cloudy and cold Morristown to take on the always tough nationally ranked Senators of Walters State.  Ken Campbell's boys are always the front runners for the conference title and this year is no different as they jumped off to a 3-0 conference start.  The Tigers put sophomore Coty Green on the mound to face the "salty" batting order of the Senators and Coty performed admirably.  The game was scoreless for 2 innings and then the Senators broke through for 4 runs in the 3rd inning behind a couple of hits and a home run.  The Tigers fired right back with 3 of their own with Heath Cheverton hitting a lead off triple to right center field and then Beau Geren walking.  Bren Schuehler brought in Cheverton and moved Geren up on a fielder's choice and then after a strike out Garret Burgess and Edwin Borbon each double down the right field line.  The Senators scored 2 more in the 5th and then broke the game open with 6 unearned runs in the 6th.  The Tigers scored one more in the 7th as Seve Alvarez singled and then was brought home with a double to right center field by Geren.  This finished the scoring and what was a close game ended 12-4.

Game 2 started afterwards and with Coach Robert Long leading the Tigers due to Coach Dennis' ejection in the first game, things got interesting.  Bren Schuehler took the mound for the Tigers and after the Tigers didn't score in the top of the 1st the Senators wasted little time getting goin gon Schuehler.  They plated 3 runs in the first behind 3 walks and a home run.  The Tigers fired back again with 2 runs behind a 2 out walk and error and then a big 2 run scoring double by Scotty Guest.  The Senators scored again in the second and the Tigers were blanked in the 3rd, when in the bottom of the inning with 1 out and 1 on Coach Long was inexplicably "tossed" from the game and the Tigers had to forfeit due to both coaches being ejected.  So it ended 4-2 Walters State.

Game three was on Sunday and a nicer day on the whole.  Zach Driggers took the mound and delivered a sterling performance as he went 6.33 innings and allowed only 3 runs on 5 hits and struck out 7.  The Senators hit a solo HR in the first inning and then there was no scoring until they put another 2-spot up in the 5th inning.  The Tigers finally answered in the 6th inning as both Cheverton and Geren reached on infield errors and then after a wild pitch, Jeremy Fitzgerald drove in one with an infield out.  Then Coty Green delivered a single to right field to score the other.  The Tigers took the lead in the 8th inning as they scored two runs behind a double by Green to lead off the inning and then a sacrifice bunt and an infield single by Scott Guest.  Seve Alvarez hit another infield single and then Ryan Williams reached via an error and Heath Cheverton walked to drive in another run.  Beau Geren struck out on a 3-2 pitch to end the inning with the sacks loaded.  The Senators hit another solo HR in the bottom of the 8th inning to tie the game and then manufactured a run in the 9th to win it after the Tigers hadn't scored.  The final score was 5-4 and the Tigers left Morristown without a victory in the series.

March 1st vs. Columbia State

After a long week off with no games, the Tigers took on the Chargers of Columbia State at home.  The Tigers put Coty Green on the mound and he delivered a solid outing.  After a scoreless 1st inning the Chargers scored 1 in the second and 1 in the 3rd inning.  The Tigers answered back with 4 in the bottom of the third inning as Jeremy Fitzgerald singled and was followed by a walk to Severino Alvarez and back to back doubles by Heath Cheverton and Beau Geren.  An infield out and a wild pitch plated Geren so the Tigers were up 4-2.  Unfortunately, the Chargers came back with a 2-out 2-run HR in the 5th and then added 2 more in the 6th to build a 6-4 lead.  The Tigers attempted a rally, but it fell short and they lost 6-4.

Game 2 started off with the Chargers scoring 2 in the first but the Tigers came back with 1 in the first and 2 in the second inning.  In the first, Ryan Williams led off with a double and was plated by a wild pitch then a fielders choice by Heath Cheverton.  In the second inning, Dexter Scudgins doubled and after an Edwin Borbon single and a fielder's choice, Jeremy Fitzgerald hit a big double to right center field.  The Chargers scored 1 in the 4th inning and then exploded for 3 in the 5th inning off of freshman Corey Davidson.  The Tigers answered in the 6th inning with 5 runs as a walk and an error opened the door and then Garret Burgess, Fitzgerald, and Ryan Williams all singled before a sacrifice fly by Cheverton and a booming triple by Geren built a bigger lead.  Lee Henry came in relief of Bradden Scott and secured the save with a solid 7th inning.  The 8-6 victory was a good one for the Tigers and set them up for their non-conference tilt with Maryville College on Monday at home.

March 3rd vs. Maryville College

The Tigers set up for a non-conference battle with Maryville College out of Maryville, Tennessee.  The Tigers have been needing non-conference games and with the poor weather, they have been tough to get in.  Wes Alsup took the mound for the Tigers and delivered 3 sparkling innings.  The red-shirt sophomore that has been battling injuries came out and struck out 8 while allowing no hits and no runs.  Chad Reeves followed him and threw 2 innings and struck out one with no runs and Charles Fowlkes and Dane Anderson each threw an inning and allowed no hits and no runs.  Anderson struck out 2.  These four combined to hurl a no-hitter while allowing only 2 walks and striking out 11.  What a superb game for the Tiger staff and defense.  Ryan Williams had 2 hits and the entire lineup chipped in hits and runs while making the score 9-0 for the game.

Game 2 was much of the same as Jordan Dean took the mound and threw a sparkling 3 innings of work.  While allowing a hit he did strike out 5 and walk no one.  Lewis Dortch came on and struggled some allowing 2 hits and 1 unearned run in an inning of work and Brian Satterfield also struggled some before striking out 3 in his inning of work.  The Tiger offense exploded for 18 runs in the game as Williams again had 2 hits and Heath Cheverton, Beau Geren and Aaron Short all also chipped in two hits.  Geren had 5 RBI's for the game and Short had 3.  It was a good day for the Tiger offense and one they needed badly.  The game with Wallace State Hanceville has been cancelled and so the next games will be conference affairs at Motlow State on Friday and Saturday.

March 9th at Motlow State

The Tigers "weathered" some bad weather and finally got to play in Lynchburg against an always tough foe in Motlow State.  Coty Green took the mound for the first game and he wasn't greeted well by the home team.  After a walk to the leadoff hitter the second hole hitter stroked a 1-strike home run to left field.  In the second inning after another uneventful at bat by the Tigers Motlow again plated two runs to make the score 4-0.  Zach Driggers came on in the 4th inning and threw 3 scoreless innings allowing only 1 hit but unfortunately the damage was done.  In the 5th inning the Tigers mounted a rally behind a single by Edwin Borbon and another by Garret Burgess.  After a bunt moved them, Ryan Williams lined out to right-field to score Borbon but Burgess was left stranded on the third out.  The Tigers tried to create a comeback in the 7th but it was snuffed out by a double play.  Final score:  Motlow 4  Chatt State 1

Game two put Lee Henry on the mound for the Tigers in the unusual role of starter.  Henry has been an unbelievable closer for the past year or so but with the needs of quality starts, we decided to put him in this new role.  He delivered 6 innings of great pitching to give  us a chance to win the game.  The Tigers scored one in the 2nd inning as Clay Hindman walked and was moved over on a fielder's choice and then scored with two outs on Pat Jones' single.  Motlow answered back with a run of it's own in the bottom half and then the Tigers scored 2 more in the 6th inning as Bren Schuehler led off the inning with a long HR to centerfield.  Jordan Dean then ripped a double to right-center field and was moved over on a bunt and then scored on Pat Jones' fielder's choice.  Motlow again answered with two runs as Henry began to tire some.  In the 7th inning, the Tigers finally blew it open with 4 runs as Heath Cheverton singled and was moved over on an error.  After a walk, Borbon laid down a perfect bunt and the bases were loaded.  Jordan Dean hit his second double of the day to plate two runs and then Clay Hindman hit a sacrifice fly to score another.  Pat Jones concluded the scoring with an infield single and then Bradden Scott came on to close the game with a 3-up / 3-down 7th inning.  Final score:  Chatt State 7   Motlow State 3.

March 10th at Maryville College

The Tigers took to the road on Monday to play the Scots of Maryville College and did a better job of showing up offensively.  Wes Alsup took the mound for the Tigers and delivered 4 innings of 2 hit ball allowing no runs and striking out 7.  Brian Satterfield followed Alsup up with 3 innings of shutout ball to record the save while striking out 4 and allowing no hits.  The Tigers jumped out offensively with 3 in the first inning as Heath Cheverton, Jeremy Fitzgerald, Beau Geren and Jordan Dean all had hits.  They scored 1 more in the 3rd inning as Cheverton led off with a booming triple and scored on a stolen base.  The Tigers scored 1 more in the 6th inning as Bren Schuehler singled and was pinch run for by Seve Alvarez, who promptly stole second.  He scored on a two out single by Coty Green.  2 more runs were plated in the seventh inning as Aaron Short doubled and then scored on Fitzgerald's single.  Fitzgerald scored on a single by Beau Geren.  The final score was Chatt State 7-0.

Game 2 was more of the same as Bren Schuehler took the mound after a bout with the flu and threw 4 strong innings.  He got his first victory this season as he allowed no runs and struck out 8 while giving up 1 hit.  Chad Reeves followed him for 2 innings and allowed no hits and no runs while striking out 3.  The Tigers scored 2 in the 2nd inning as Edwin Borbon hit a triple to right field and then scored after 3 walks.  Scott Guest then drove in another with a sacrifice fly to right field.  3 more were tallied in the 3rd inning as Beau Geren singled and Blake Hixson was hit by pitch.  Borbon and Coty Green both singled and then Garret Burgess hit a sacrifice fly.  A solo run was scored in the 5th inning as Dexter Scudgins doubled down the left field line and scored on a sacrifice fly by Coty Green.  4 more were scored in the 6th all with 2 outs.  Ryan Williams walked and then Beau Geren tripled to right center field.  Scudgins hit his second double of the game and then after a hit by pitch, Green singled and Aaron Short singled to make the score 10-0.  The Tigers play at home on Tuesday vs. Piedmont College at 1 pm and then host nationally ranked Dyersburg State on Friday and Saturday.

March 11th vs. Piedmont College

The Tigers bounced back from a late night in Maryville and took on Piedmont at home.  Corey Davidson took the mound and threw 4 scoreless innings as he allowed 2 hits and 1 walk while striking out 3.  Jordan Dean took over for him and pitched the remaining 3 innings while allowing no runs and 3 hits while striking out 5.  Dean took the win 2-0 to run his record to 2-0 on the season.  The Tigers didn't hit the ball particularly well at all and Heath Cheverton got them on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning with a 2-out, 2-run Home Run to left field.  The defense was stellar and with good pitching this led to a victory for the Tigers.

Game 2 put hot-pitching Bradden Scott on the mound but he struggled in his one inning.  After allowing 2 hits and a walk with no outs he pitched out of the jam and allowed no runs.  Lewis Dortch took over for him and the freshman from North Carolina threw 3 sparkling innings allowing no runs and no hits.  Dane Anderson followed and the freshman from Gordon Lee HS threw 2 innings while allowing 1 run and striking out 3.  John Howard came on and threw the final inning allowing no runs and getting the save.  The Tigers won another squeaker 4-1 and run their record to 14-7.  In the 3rd inning they scored 2 runs as Heath Cheverton hit a single and after stealing a base was plated by Jeremy Fitzgerald.  After a stolen base, Fitzgerald scored on a Beau Geren single.  Again, in the 5th inning, the Tigers scored 2 more runs as Fitzgerald was hit by pitch and then scored on Beau Geren's double to left field.  Geren scored on Coty Green's 2-out double to left field also.  The final score was Chattanooga State 4-1.  The next game will be at home vs. Dyersburg State on Friday and Saturday.

March 16th vs. Dyersburg State

After two days of constant rain, the series with Dyersburg State was condensed down to just a doubleheader.  Wes Alsup took the mound for the Tigers and delivered a solid performance in his first conference start.  He threw 5 innings and allowed 4 runs while only giving up 3 hits and striking out 8.  The only blemish on his solid performance was 4 walks allowed of which 2 scored.  Dyersburg went up 1-0 in the first inning on one hit and then the Tigers responded in the bottom of the 3rd inning with two runs as Jordan Dean walked and then stole second base.  After a second out and a walk to Heath Cheverton,  Jeremy Fitzgerald came through with a ringing double to plate them.  Dyersburg scored one in the 4th inning to tie it and then the Tigers scored 1 to take the lead.  Back to back doubles by Kendal Wells and Garret Burgess plated the run.  The Eagles came back and scored 2 in the next inning as they pieced together HR's in the inning.  Once again, the Tigers plated one as Cheverton walked, stole second and then scored on an infield single by Fitzgerald.  The Tigers took a 2 run lead in the bottom of the 6th as Edwin Borbon singled and then after a sacrifice, Garret Burgess hit a long HR to dead centerfield.  The never-say-die Eagles scored 2 in the top of the 7th as Zach Driggers, who had pitched marvelously for 1.66 innings, was relieved by Lee Henry and with 2-outs and 2-strikes on the batter, they hit a 2-run HR.  The Tigers regrouped and had a great bottom of the 7th.  Jeremy Fitzgerald walked as did Beau Geren.  Scott Guest pinch-hit and got an infield single to load the bases and then after an out was recorded, pinch-hitter Dexter Scudgins finished the game with a ringing hit to dead center field.  The final score:  Chatt State 7  Dyersburg 6

Game two was more of the same as Lee Henry took the mound for the Tigers and Jonathan White for the Eagles.  Both delivered excellent outings as Henry went 4 innings on 2 hits and 2 runs while White went all 8 innings with 6 hits and 16 strikeouts.  Dyersburg scored one in the 2nd and then the Tigers plated 2 in the bottom of the inning.  Borbon singled as did Wells to put people on 2nd and 3rd.  Burgess was hit by pitch to load them up.  Aaron Short hit a sacrifice fly, then Ryan Williams doubled to score another and leave runners on 2nd and 3rd.  Cheverton was punched out and Fitzgerald flied out to end the threat.  Dyersburg scored one in the 6th inning as the Tigers made 2 uncharacteristic defensive miscues.  A 3rd strike wasn't handled by Short behind the plate and then a rundown was poorly executed by Wells and Cheverton.  This allowed the run to score.  The game went an extra inning and the Eagles broke through on Bren Schuehler for 4 runs.  Schuehler had thrown 3 innings of excellent relief but broke down some in the 8th.  The Tigers mounted a threat in the bottom of the inning as after an out they got a HBP and then two singles to score a run.  But unfortunately pinch hitter Erik Garza struck out and then Kendal Wells was just nipped at 1B to end the game.

March 18th at Gadsden State

The Tigers rolled into Gadsden, Alabama and tried to get their season back on track with a tough non-conference game.  The Tigers jumped on the Cardinals in the first inning for a run as Heath Cheverton led off with a ringing single up the middle and then Jeremy Fitzgerald was hit by pitch.  After a sacrifice bunt, Blake Hixson drove in a run with an infield out.  Chad Reeves started for the Tigers and threw a shutout first three innings as the Tigers scored another run in the third inning.  Again, Cheverton singled and Fitzgerald walked and then Beau Geren got on on an infield single.  Blake Hixson got the run in with another infield out but the rally stalled there.  In the 4th inning, the Tigers blew the game open with a 6 run inning.  Garret Burgess led off with a double and then after a walk, Scott Guest got an infield single.  Cheverton ripped his third single to plate one run and then after Fitzgerald made the first out, Geren scorched a triple to dead center field.  He later scored on the back-end of a double steal.  Corey Davidson came on and threw 3 more scoreless innings as the Tigers tacked on 4 more runs in the 7th.  Big hits by Short, Guest and Geren again led to the runs as Geren finished the game with 6 RBI's for the day.  Brian Satterfield came on and threw a scoreless 7th inning and the Tigers walked out with a 12-0 win.  The next games are at Roane State on Thursday and Friday.

March 21st & 22nd at Roane State

The Tigers went to Harriman and played 3 games against Roane State.  They were wild and wooly affairs and the Tigers won all 3 behind some solid pitching and very timely hitting.  Game one was won 16-11 as Heath Cheverton and Ryan Williams each had 3 hits and Cheverton had 5 RBI's including a 9th inning Grand Slam HR.  Bradden Scott and Brian Satterfield came on in relief and threw very well as Satterfield got the win.

Game two was won by the score of 13-7.  Again the Tigers jumped out to a lead and then nearly lost it.  Jeremy Fitzgerald had 3 hits as did Seve Alvarez.  Alvarez had 3 RBI's while Fitzgerald had 2.  Bren Schuehler got the win while Jordan Dean came in and threw a great 1 2/3 innings of relief for the save.  Game three was a little more comfortable as the Tigers blew out to a big lead and won 14-3.  Beau Geren was 4-4 on the game with 5 RBI's and Alvarez and Fitzgerald stayed hot with 2 hits a piece.  Coty Green threw a complete game and pitched extremely well.

March 24 at Shorter College

The Tigers went down to Rome Georgia to play the Hawks of Shorter College's JV.  Though it was cold and snowy there the games went well.  Game one saw the Tigers jump out to an early lead and Lewis Dortch throw very well.  Dortch threw a 1-hitter and struck out 6 hitters while the Tigers won 14-0.  Heath Cheverton had 3 hits and 3 RBI's and Garret Burgess also had 3 hits.  Game two was a much closer affair and if not for the superb pitching of Chad Reeves the outcome may have been negative.  Reeves threw a complete game allowing 7 hits and striking out 8.  He and Dortch both ran their record to 3-0 on the season.  The Tigers jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first two innings but the Hawks came back with 3 runs of their own through the 5th inning and then the Tigers scored 1 more insurance run in the 7th and Reeves closed the game out with a strong 7th inning.  The final score was 6-3 Tigers.

March 26th vs. Georgia Perimeter

The Tigers hosted Perimeter College for a home doubleheader.  This made up for a rainout earlier in the season.  Coty Green threw a complete game 5 hitter as the Tigers jumped out early for 7 runs in the first inning and never looked back.  Beau Geren continued his hot hitting with 2 hits and Ryan Williams had 3 hits.  Dexter Scudgins had 2 hits and 2 RBI's as the Tigers won 10-0.  Game two was a much tougher affair as Perimeter jumped all over starter Jordan Dean and reliever Zach Driggers for 7 runs in the first 3 innings.  Down 7-1, the Tigers started chipping away at the lead.  While Bradden Scott did a great job of holding them there, the offense started working.  The Tigers scored one in the 3rd and 3 in the fourth as Beau Geren and Heath Cheverton got big hits.  Then they scored another run in the 5th and another in the sixth to tie the game.  Perimeter came back and scored in the top of the 7th inning but the "never-say-die" Tigers scored two runs with two outs.  With no one on and two outs, Jeremy Fitzgerald walked and then came all the way around to score on Heath Cheverton's double.  Beau Geren immediately jumped up and drove a 1-1 pitch to right-center and scored Cheverton with the winning run.  This brought the Tigers' win streak to 8 games and their record to 23-8.

March 27th vs. Shorter College

The Tigers hosted Shorter at home as they tried to push their win streak to 9 games. Corey Davidson delivered 6 solid innings allowing only 2 earned runs.  The Tigers jumped out with 7 runs early as Beau Geren continued his torrid hitting with 3 hits and 2 RBI's and Ryan Williams, Heath Cheverton both had 2 hits a piece.  The final score was 11-2.  Game two was another tough game as Dane Anderson took the mound and delivered 5.33 innings of 4 hit ball and only allowed 2 runs also.  The Tigers scored 2 in the first two innings and then two in the 4th and 1 in the 6th.  Heath Cheverton had 2 hits along with Dexter Scudgins and Cheverton had 3 RBI's also.  Seve Alvarez and Bradden Scott each threw in relief and did a super job.  This win, 7-2, pushes the Tigers' win streak to 10 games as they get a weekend off from conference activity.  Next Monday they will host the Tennessee Wesleyan JV and then on Tuesday evening is the exhibition game vs. the Chattanooga Lookouts at AT&T Ballpark at 7:15.

The #1 ranked Tigers rolled into Lynchburg Tennessee to take on the always formidable Bucks of Motlow State and battled on two very cold Middle Tennessee days.  With the temperatures dipping into the high 30's and the wind blowing in, it was a pair of tough days to play.  Game one put 9 game winner Thomas Gray on the mound against the hard-hitting Bucks and he threw wonderfully as he allowed only 3 hits and 1 walk while shutting them out 8-0.  Gray pushes his record up to 10-0 on the year and has begun to entrench himself as one of the top pitchers in Chattanooga State history.  The game was scoreless through 5 innings as the Tigers struggled themselves to get any offense going.  Finally in the 6th inning Trey Burstrom singled and after being forced out by a Nate Rochester fielder's choice and a fly out, Beau Geren reached on an error and Coty Green drove in both with a 2-out, 2-strike single to right.  In the 7th, the Tigers broke it open with 5 runs as after 2 outs Heath Cheverton singled and Burstrom walked then Rochester singled and Kendal Wells doubled and Beau Geren crushed a long Home Run to left field.  Trey Burstrom hit a solo HR to close out the scoring in the 9th inning and the Tigers won 8-0.

Game 2 began much the same way as neither team scored in the first inning.  Drew Bowlin started for the Tigers and with the exception of one hiccup, threw a great game.  The Bucks scored 4 in the 2nd inning as Bowlin walked a hitter and then an infield error opened the door.  Another walk and then a pair of strikeouts followed.  Nearly out of the inning, 2 base hits scored some runs and then a HBP did more damage.  The Tigers came back with 3 in the 5th inning as Beau Geren doubled and Coty Green singled and Alex Henry did the same with one out.  Michael Rangel singled also and Heath Cheverton hit a sacrifice fly to plate another but that was all for the inning.  In the 7th inning with the score 4-3 Bucks, the Tigers mounted one more rally.  Geren singled and then Green moved him to 2B with an infield out.  After a walk to Michael Gay, Henry lined out to center field and then Rangel hit a rope to right-center field and the Bucks right fielder made a stunning diving catch to save the game. Bowlin ended up with 5 innings pitched and 13 strikeouts but lost to move his record to 4-2.

Game 3 has been a solid game for the Tigers in the past but they stumbled some again.  3-time Conference Pitcher of the Week, Coty Green, took the mound for the Tigers and threw well enough to win, but didn't due to a lack of offense.  The Bucks again got out on top with 3 in the 2nd inning and the Tigers came back with 2 in the 4th inning.  Cheverton singled and was moved on Rochester's single and a walk to Wells.  Geren hit a sacrifice fly and Green hit an RBI single also.  The Bucks scored another in the 5th and the Tigers scored 1 in the 6th as Burstrom reached on an error and after a fly out, Wells walked and Geren singled to plate one.  Green flew out and Michael Gay walked but Henry struck out to end the threat.  The Bucks exploded for 3 unearned runs behind 2 crucial errors by the Tigers defense and while the Tigers had opportunities in the 7th inning, once again, no one stepped up and got the big at bat.  The Tigers lose 7-3 despite a solid effort by Green who goes 6 innings and allows 2 earned runs for the game.

March 30th & 31st vs. Southwest Tennessee CC

The Saluqis of SW Tennessee Community College rode into Chattanooga to face the #1 ranked Tigers and fought hard for 3 games.  The Tigers won each of these skirmishes but not without some real struggles.  Game One put Thomas Gray on the mound for the Tigers sporting an 8-0 record overall.  Freshman Gray delivered yet another great outing as he went 8 innings and allowed 2 earned runs and 7 hits while striking out 8 for the game.  The Tigers scored 3 in the first inning as Heath Cheverton led off the game with a single and was followed by a single by Trey Burstrom.  The Saluqis 3B made a throwing error on Nate Rochester's bunt and scored one run and then Beau Geren hit a single to right field to score another followed by a single by Trey Curtis to right field.  Another run was tallied by the Tigers in the 3rd inning as Kendal Wells singled and moved on another Geren single and then scored on Coty Green's fielder's choice.  The Tigers scored 1 more in the 6th and 3 more in the 7th as they broke the game open.  Michael Rangel and Burstrom had big hits in the 6th and Coty Green hit a sizzling HR to left field in the 7th to produce big runs.  The Saluqis broke through with 2 in the 8th inning and 1 in the 9th inning but it was too little too late for the team from Memphis.  The final score was 10-3 Tigers and Gray runs his record to 9-0!!

Game two was a doozy and produced many highlights and lowlights.  Drew Bowlin took the mound for the Tigers and spun a really nice game.  He threw 5 innings and allowed 4 hits and struck out 9 for the day.  Zac LaBarreare took the mound for the Saluqis and almost matched Bowlin pitch-for-pitch throughout the day.  He allowed 3 hits and struck out 2 for the day.  After a number of "0" were thrown up the Tigers scored 1 in the 3rd inning as Alex Henry reached on an error and scored on Michael Rangel's ringing double to left center field.  The "never-say-die" Saluqis came back in the 6th inning with 3 runs to force Bowlin from the game and bring in Lee Henry.  Henry squelched the rally and the Tigers came back in and went to work.  In the 6th inning they were led off with a scorched single to right by Burstrom.  After a fly out and a stolen base, Kendal Wells ripped a single down the first base line to score one run and then stole second base.  After another out, Coty Green hit a "seeing eye" single in the infield to score the tying run.  Then after another stolen base, Trey Curtis walked and Alex Henry walked and then Rangel was hit by pitch to drive in the go-ahead run.  Heath Cheverton and Burstrom and Rochester followed with hits ( Cheverton's a double ) and broke open a very close game.  The final after this inning was 9-3 Tigers and after a scoreless 7th inning by Henry, that is what the game remained.

Game 3 was all about Coty Green as he threw a real gem of a game.  He went the full 7 innings and allowed 4 hits and 1 walk while spinning a 6-0 shutout ( the second of the year for him ).  The game was scoreless until the 3rd inning as the Tigers had 4 hits and scored 3 runs for the inning.  Alex Henry doubled to right and then Rangel singled to center to score him.  After a walk to Tanner Shamblin and a double play ground out Burstrom ripped a single as did Rochester and Wells to complete the scoring.  Green kept mowing them down and the Tigers finished off the Saluqis with 3 more in the 6th inning.  Walks to Henry, Rangel, and Shamblin were follwed by a sac fly by Cheverton and singles by Burstrom and Rochester.  This made the final score 6-0 and pushed the Tigers record to 34-5 overall and 17-1 in conference.  The next game will be the exhibition game at AT&T Park vs. the Chattanooga Lookouts.  This game will begin at 7:15 pm.

March 28th vs. Tennessee Wesleyan JV

The still #1 Nationally ranked Tigers took the field against Wesleyan's JV and struggled somewhat to regain their previous form.  Freshman Jonathan Reeder took the mound and delivered a solid, if not spectacular, performance.  The southpaw from Dallas, Texas went 4 innings and gave up 4 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 3.  The Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning as Heath Cheverton reached on catcher's interference and then Alex Henry and Trey Burstrom singled.  Kendal Wells drove in one run with a fielder's choice.  In the second the Tigers plated another on Trey Curtis' single and a double by Cheverton.  3 more were scored in the third inning as Burstrom bunted a single and after a HBP and an error, a pair of walks drove in a couple of runs.  Wesleyan scored 2 in the 4th and the Tigers answered back with 2 in the bottom of the inning.  Henry singled and Burstrom reached on an error and after a pair of stolen bases, Beau Geren plated them with a single to centerfield.  Wesleyan scored 3 more off of reliever Bradden Scott and the Tigers scored 1 in the 6th to pull away with a 9-5 victory.  This win makes Jonathan Reeder 1-1 on the year.

Game 2 started off the same way as Tyler Stokes took the mound for the Tigers.  The freshman right-hander from Hixson HS has thrown well this year in relief and this was his first start of the year.  He went 4.33 innings and allowed 4 hits and only 2 earned runs.  The Tigers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning as Cheverton singled and after an out Burstrom and Nate Rochester hit booming shots followed by a rocket by Geren to score another run.  Wesleyan scored 2 in the second and the Tigers scored 1 in the 3rd as Burstrom walked and stole second and was plated on Geren's rocket down the third base line.  The never-say-die Wesleyan's scored 1 more in the 4th and 3 more in the 5th  but the Tigers answered with 7 in the 5th inning to blow the game open.  Michael Rangel, Cheverton, Rochester and Geren all had big hits in the inning.  With the score 11-8 the Tigers finally finished off the game by plating 6 in the 6th inning.  After a pair of walks, Rochester hit a blast to right field to score 2 and then Coty Green had a RBI single and Rangel had a sacrifice fly.  Heath Cheverton drove in the last run with a single and closed the game out at 18-8.  This makes the Tigers 31-5 overall.

March 23rd and 24th at Hiwassee College

The #1 ranked Tigers went into Madisonville, TN to take on the always tough Tigers of Hiwassee College.  Coach Lance Knight does a super job of getting quality players to play well at Hiwassee and this year's team is another example of that.  Chatt State sent 7-0 Thomas Gray to the mound to try for his 8th consecutive win and he did but not without some tight times.  Chatt State scored 1 in the 2nd inning behind a HBP and stolen base by Beau Geren and then a single by Alex Henry.  2 more were plated in the 3rd as Heath Cheverton got a single and Trey Burstrom walked and then Nate Rochester had a big hit.  In the 5th the Scenic City Tigers again scored as Cheverton singled and stole second and then was scored on an error by the Hiwassee pitcher.  Hiwassee came back and scored one in the 6th and then 1 in the 7th but Gray kept them at bay going the full 9 innings and allowing 5 hits and 2 earned runs while striking out 11 on the day.

Game 2 was another tough day at Madisonville and Chattanooga State struggled the entire game with Hiwassee's pitching.  Hiwassee scored one in the 2nd inning off of starter Drew Bowlin.  The Tigers of Chattanooga came back with 2 of their own in the 3rd inning as Clay Hindman walked and then moved around on Alex Henry's double.   A ground out by Tanner Shamblin and a sacrifice fly by Cheverton scored the two runs.  Hiwassee came back with 2 of its own in the 4th inning and the Chatt State 9 answered again with a solo run in the 6th.  Tanner Shamblin again drove in a run with a sacrifice fly ball.  Chattanooga State just couldn't get the "big" hit they needed and that came back to haunt them.  In the bottom of the sixth inning, Hiwassee scored on a single and a big 2-run home run to right field.  Chatt State tried to mount a comeback but couldn't get the key hit and Hiwassee won 5-3.

Game 3 was more of the same as Coty Green took the mound for Chatt State and delivered a gem of a game.  He allowed 6 hits in 7 innings and only 1 earned run while striking out 3 and walking no one.  Chattanooga State erupted for 5 runs in the 2nd as Kendal Wells walked, as did Beau Geren and Clay Hindman was hit by a pitch.  After a fielder's choice, Tanner Shamblin hit a single and then Cheverton hit a sac. fly.  Trey Burstrom walked in another run and then Nate Rochester rocketed a ball to CF to score 2 more.  Hiwassee came back with 2 in the 3rd inning and then Chattanooga State scored 1 in the 5th inning and 2 in the 6th inning.  Big hits were made by Wells, Michael Gay, Cheverton, Alex Henry and Rochester.  The final score was 8-2 in a hard fought win for the Tigers of Chattanooga State.  This puts their record at 28-6 overall and 13-2 in conference.  Coty Green goes to 4-2 overall and pitched a masterful game.

March 21st at Tennessee Wesleyan JV

The newly #1 Nationally Ranked Chattanooga State Tigers went on the road to Athens to take on the Wesleyan JV team.  In the past this team has been a real "thorn in the side" of the Tigers but this year, the Tigers showed up strong.  Michael Gay took the mound for the Tigers in game one and delivered 4 innings of 2 hit pitching.  The Tigers went up 3-0 in the 3rd behind  a pair of hits and a Nathan Rochester home run.  They exploded for 8 runs in the 4th as Beau Geren, Heath Cheverton, Scotty Guest and Nate Rochester had the big hits.  The Tigers closed them out in the 5th inning with 3 more runs and won the game 14-2.  Gay moved to 4-0 on the season.

Game 2 put Bradden Scott on the mound for the Tigers and he delivered 4 innings of 2 hit ball.  He upped his record to 4-0 also and allowed only 2 earned runs.  The Tigers scored 3 in the 2nd and 2 each in the 3rd and 4th innings.  With the scored 7-2 in the 5th the Tigers exploded for 4 runs and then 2 more in the 7th.  Drew Carnes had 3 hits as did Trey Curtis.  Burstrom chipped in 3 RBI's and Clay Hindman had 2 RBI's on a big home run in the second inning.  The final score was 14-5 and made the Tigers 26-5 overall.

March 17th at Gordon College

The Tigers rolled down to Barnesville Georgia sporting a 15 game winning streak and were "popped" by Gordon College by the scores of 5-1 and 5-1.  Travis McLanahan's Gordon team has been winning at a fast-clip also and threw two quality left-handers out at the Tigers.  In the first game Coty Green took the mound and delivered a pretty good performance.  He went all 6 innings and allowed 5 runs on 9 hits.  The Tiger offense couldn't muster much against Gordon's pitching as they scored 1 run in the 6th inning to make the score 2-1 and then allowed 3 runs in the 6th to finish it up.  Trey Burstrom had a 2 for 3 game and Nate Rochester was 1 for 2.  The second game was more of the same as Gordon jumped up 2-0 and held on for the win.  Jonathan Reeder was the hard-luck loser as he went 4 2/3 innings and allowed only 1 earned run.  He also only allowed 3 hits during his work.  The Tigers offense again went silent as they only mustered 5 hits.  After being down 4-0 they scored 1 to cut into the lead but couldn't generate any more offense.  This left them at a 24-5 record overall.

March 15th vs. Lake Michigan CC

The Tigers hosted Lake Michigan Community College on a dreary looking Thursday and hoped to further their 14 game winning streak.  Lake Michigan was coming off of a solid Florida trip where they went an impressive 3-2 against the southern teams.  Thomas Gray took the mound and after a little excitement early, settled in and threw very well.  The Ringgold freshman was looking for his seventh consecutive win and got it.  After Lake Michigan scored one in the first inning the Tigers jumped out for 5 runs in the bottom half of the inning.  Scott Guest walked and Trey Burstrom was hit by pitch and then hot-hitting Nate Rochester hit a 2 RBI single after they had moved up on a wild pitch.  Coty Green got on an infield error and then Michael Gay and Isaiah Newson chipped in singles as did Alex Henry.  In the second, Lake Michigan again scored a run but the Tigers got 3 as Burstrom walked and stole second and Rochester immediately hit a booming double to left center field.  After a couple outs Gay hit a single and moved around on an error and scored on Newson's error.  Lake Michigan scored one more in the 5th inning but the Tigers again answered as Heath Cheverton tripled and scored on an error.  In the 6th, the Tigers scored 3 more as an error and a walk opened the inning and then a booming triple by Beau Geren scored them.  Geren then scored on a wild pitch.  Lake Michigan scored 2 unearned runs in the 7th as Tyler Stokes came in and threw well.  The final score was Chatt State 12 Lake Michigan 5 and the streak moved to 15 games in a row!!

Game two started off with Lee Henry on the mound and the rain was coming down a little more steadily now.  After a scoreless first inning defensively, the Tigers kept their momentum going from the first game as Alex Henry singled and stole second and then was moved to 3B on a bunt.  Nate Rochester picked up another RBI with a ground out.  In the second inning, Lake Michigan scored one and then the Tigers scored 2.  Gay walked and stole second and then scored on Cheverton's single.  After Cheverton stole a bag he scored on Tanner Shamblin's single.  Lake Michigan scored an unearned run in the 3rd inning and before the Tigers could get a chance to break the tie, the rains came and broke up the Tigers chance to go ahead.  The game was called at 3-3 and Lake Michigan headed on North.  The Tigers next game will be in Barnesville, Georgia against red-hot Gordon College on Saturday.  Starting time to be determined.

March 13 at Georgia Perimeter College

The red-hot Chatt State Tigers rolled in to Hot 'lanta to play the Jaguars of Georgia Perimeter.  The Tigers sent Bradden Scott to the mound with a 3-0 record and he struggled some early in the outing.  He allowed 3 runs in the bottom of the first inning behind 4 hits.  After no scoring in the second inning, the Tigers scored 2 in the third inning as Alex Henry and Scott Guest got a singles and were moved around to 3B.  Henry scored on Trey Burstrom's fielders choice and Guest scored on a balk.  The Jaguars scored a solo run in the 3rd as Scott tried to settle in.  The Tigers again scored 2 in the 4th behind a Trey Curtis single and singles by Isaiah Newson and Heath Cheverton.  Scott Guest drove one in with a sacrifice fly.  With the game tied, Adam Hinojosa came in and got out of a jam in the bottom half of the fourth.  The Tigers scored one in the top of the fifth to take the lead.  Rochester doubled and moved up on an error to 3B.  Coty Green drove him in with a single through the drawn in infield.  Hinojosa threw one more outstanding inning and then gave way to Lee Henry who threw two sparkling innings to earn his 3rd save of the year.  The final score was 5-4 Tigers and that made 13 in a row.

Game two was a low scoring affair and the usual hot-hitting bats of the Tigers were silented by some good Jags pitching.  The Tigers scored 1 in the first as Burstrom got on base and stole 2nd.  He then got to third on a fielder's choice and stole home on the back-end of a double steal.  The Jaguars immediately followed suit off of Michael Gay and scored in the bottom of the inning.  Gay settled in and gave up only one more run in the 4th inning.  Unfortunately, the Tiger bats were silent and no runs were scored to the 7th inning.  With 2 outs in the 7th inning and nobody on base, Nate Rochester coaxed a walk as did pinch hitter, Coty Green.  Up stepped freshman catcher, Drew Carnes, and after working the count to 3-2, he stroked a line shot down the 3B line to score one run.  Cheverton hammered a shot to left field that the Jags outfielder flagged down on the run for a superb play.  Gay kept mowing down hitters to force the game to extra innings and in the 8th inning the Tigers mounted a rally.  Newson walked and was moved to 2B where he was moved to third on an infield single by Tanner Shamblin.  He scored on Guest' infield error for the lead and then Shamblin scored on a squeeze bunt from Burstrom.  Gay closed the game out in the bottom half for his third win of the season against no losses and the Tigers won a squeaker 4-2 to go to 23-3 for the season and kept their winning streak in tact at 14 games.  Their next games will be Thursday at home vs. Lake Michigan CC at 1 pm.

March 9-10th vs. Columbia State

The Tigers took on the always-tough Chargers from Columbia State.  Thomas Gray took the mound for the start of the first game sporting a 5-0 record.  The Chargers opened up with 3 runs in the first inning but the Tigers answered back with 5 of their own.  After a walk to Scott Guest, Trey Burstrom and Nate Rochester singled and then Kendal Wells blasted a bases clearing double to left field.  Alex Henry also hit a double to drive in a run.  Two more scored in the second for Chatt State as Guest singled and Burstrom again singled and after a fly out Wells delivered a single to drive in one and then a pair of walks and a wild pitch plated the second.   The Chargers scored one in the third as Gray struggled some.  The Tigers scored 1 more in the fourth behind a single by Rochester and Wells and then a sacrifice fly by Beau Geren.  2 more were scored by the Tigers in the 6th as Burstrom, Wells and Geren again did the damage.  Finally, 5 were plated in the 7th to end the game by a 15-5 score.  Gray went the whole way and Burstrom was 4 for 4 with 4 runs scored and Wells was 5 for 5 with 3 runs scored and 5 RBI's.

Game 2 put freshman Drew Bowlin on the mound sporting a 4-0 record.  The hard-throwing Jefferson County native delivered a rollercoaster ride.  He allowed 4 runs in the first inning and 1 in the second but then settled down to throw 4 scoreless innings.  He struck out 8 and allowed 8 hits.  The Tigers scored 2 in the first and 2 in the second to cut the lead to 5-4.  Kendal Wells continued his hot hitting with a double in the first to drive in a run and then Beau Geren drove him in with a single.  Alex Henry and Nate Rochester got big hits in the 2nd as Columbia walked 3 hitters also.  In the 4th the Tigers tied the game with a run behind a Rochester double and a Wells double.  The game went extra innings and Adam Hinojosa and Lee Henry delivered outstanding relief efforts.  Henry threw 1 2/3 innings and struck out 4 hitters.  The Tigers scored a run in the bottom of the 8th on a very questionable call at the plate.  Kendal Wells drove in the run on a bases loaded squib hit.  Lee Henry pushed his record to 2-1 with the win.

Game 3 again started off rocky for the Tigers as Coty Green was the unfortunate beneficiary of 2 errors in the first and allowed 2 unearned runs.  The Tigers came back in the 3rd and plated 3 to take the lead.  Burstrom doubled and Rochester singled and then Geren hit a sacrfice fly and Trey Curtis drove in one with a single.  In the fourth the Tigers scored another run as Isaiah Newson singled and stole second and third base.  He then scored on a fielder's choice.  Two more were plated in the bottom of the sixth after the Chargers had scored 1 unearned in the top half of the inning.  Wells walked and scored on Curtis' double.  Curtis scored on Henry's double.  The final score was 7-3 as Coty Green pushed his record to 3-1 on the young season.  This makes the Tigers 21-3 and 11-1 in conference.  The next game will be Tuesday as they travel to Atlanta to take on Georgia Perimeter College and then at home on Thursday vs. Lake Michigan Community College at 1 pm.

March 6th vs. St. Claire CC

The Chatt State Tigers took their 7 game winning streak in vs. the St. Claire Community College Skippers.  Freshman Bradden Scott took the mound and delivered another solid outing.  This win pushes Scott's record to 3-0 on the young season.  Tyler Stokes came on and contributed a solid inning in relief.  The Tigers jumped on the Skippers for 2 in the first as walks led to the demise of St. Claire.  After 2 walks, hot-hitting Beau Geren ripped a single down the left field line and then another pair of walks led to another run.  The Tigers scored 6 in the 2nd inning as the rout was on.  Another 3 in the 3rd inning and 5 in the 4th spelled doom for St. Claire as the final score was 17-4.  Beau Geren ended the day with a 3 for 4 performance and 4 rbi's.  Michael Gay was 2 for 3 with a pair of ribbies and Kendal Wells chipped in 3 rbi's also.

Game 2 was much more of the same as Gay took the mound and threw 3 solid innings.  Adam Hinojosa followed with 2 more clean innings and Michael Burkett chipped in a solo inning of no runs.  On the day, the Tigers pitching allowed zero earned runs to lower their team ERA to the low 3.00's.  Trey Burstrom had 3 hits for the second game and Trey Curtis and Clay Hindman each had 2 hits.  Hindman hit a monsterous HR on top of the barn in right center field that measured some 400+ feet.  The Tigers won 11-1 but the Skippers showed great desire and fight throughout the game.  The Tigers finished the day at a school-record 18-3 overall and still 8-1 in conference.  They will host Columbia State on Friday at 2 pm and Saturday at noon for a conference series.

March 2nd at Roane State

The still red-hot Chatt State Tigers rolled into Harriman, Tennessee to take on the Raiders of Roane State.  4-0 Thomas Gray took the mound looking for his 5th win and got it!  He gave up an earned run in the first inning and then didn't give anything up until the 8th inning and by then the damage was done by the Tigers' bats.  Gray ended up allowing 2 earned runs and 7 hits while striking out 7 and walking 4.  The Tigers scored one run in the first 3 innings and then 2 in the 4th.  In the 5th inning they erupted for 4 runs and then followed with another solo tally in the 6th and then 9 in the 8th inning.  The final score was 20-3 and Scott Guest went 4 for 6 with 3 rbi's, Trey Burstrom went 2 for 5 with 2 rbi's and 3 runs scored, Nate Rochester went 3 for 5 with 2 rbi's and Trey Curtis went 3 for 5 with 3 rbi's, while Alex Henry chipped in a 2 for 4 day with 2 rbi's.  This puts the Tigers at 14-3 and 6-1 in conference.

Games 2 and 3 were played in unbelievable wind conditions in Harriman.  The wind was blowing out to left field at about a 35 mph rate all day!!  Pitching and defense were at a premium and the Tigers delivered both.  The first game of the day put freshman, Drew Bowlin, on the mound sporting a 3-0 record.  He threw 4.33 innings and struck out 6 while allowing only 1 earned run.  Freshman Lee Henry came in and threw the remaining 2.66 innings and got the save.  The Tigers opened up scoring in the 2nd inning as they plated 4 runs.  After 2 outs, Isaiah Newson hit a double to left and Alex Henry and Heath Cheverton and Scott Guest and Trey Burstrom followed with singles to score the 4.  In the 3rd inning Trey Curtis hit a solo HR to left field.  The Raiders scored 4 in the 3rd inning to make the game close and the Tigers countered with 1 in the 5th inning as Burstrom walked and came around to score on an error on Trey Curtis.  The game stayed at 6-5 until the 7th inning as the Tiger bats came alive and delivered 9 runs!!  Burstrom walked and was followed by a mammoth HR to center by Rochester.  After a single by Kendal Wells and a walk to Coty Green, Michael Gay, Alex Henry, Cheverton, Guest, Burstrom and Rochester all had hits.  The Raiders scored 2 in the 7th but the Tigers held on for a 15-7 victory.

Game 3 saw an outstanding pitching performance by Coty Green.  He threw a complete game and allowed 7 hits and 5 runs while striking out 8 and walking 1.  The Tigers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first as Guest reached on an error and then Rochester doubled and after Wells was walked, Beau Geren tripled and was plated by Gay's single.  The Raiders scored one in the first but then the Tigers scored 2 in the 3rd inning as Wells walked and was moved by Geren's double.  Trey Curtis hit his second HR of the day and Gay doubled followed by Henry's single.  The Raiders countered with another solo tally in the 4th by the Tigers scored 1 in the 5th and 2 in the 6th to start moving the game away.  Heath Cheverton homered in the 5th and then Beau Geren and Trey Curtis hit back-to-back HR's in the 6th inning.  The final score of the game was Tigers 12 and Raiders 5.  This puts the Tigers at 16-3 overall and 8-1 in conference play.  They will host St. Claire CC out of Michigan at home on Tuesday.

February 26th vs. Gadsden State

The red-hot Tigers hosted Gadsden State in a completion of their 4-game series this year.  The Tigers split at Gadsden to open the season and were hoping to best that at home.  Bradden Scott took the mound for the Tigers sporting a 1-0 record so far and delivered a quality start.  He allowed 1 run in the first and 1 in the 3rd before tiring in the 6th and allowing 4.  He allowed 8 hits in 5.33 innings while striking out 4.  Tyler Stokes came on and garnered a save for his 1.66 innings of work.  He allowed one hit and no runs while striking out 1.  The Tigers scored 3 in the first as Scotty Guest led off with a single and was moved by bunt.  Nate Rochester walked and then Kendal Wells stayed hot with a single to center.  After another walk and a hit by pitch, Trey Curtis scored one with a fielder's choice.  In the second inning the Tigers again scored as Heath Cheverton doubled and then scored on Trey Burstrom's single.  In the 3rd the Tigers kept pouring it on with 2 more as Pat Jones singled and was moved by a Curtis single and scored on a Cheverton single.  Guest scored another with a fielder's choice.  The Tigers scored solo runs in the 4th and 6th innings as Wells doubled and was plated by Curtis' single and Wells singled and was later scored by Jones' single.  The final score was 8-6 as the Tigers won the first game.

Game 2 promised more fireworks but freshman right-hander, Michael Gay, delivered a gem.  He went the complete game allowing only 4 hits and 1 run while striking out 3.  Gay moved his record to 1-0 on the young year.  The Tigers scored early with 1 in the first, second and third innings and then 3 in the 4th.  This did in the Cardinals from Gadsden.  Alex Henry hit an rbi double in the first and Trey Burstrom had the big hit in the second.  Rochester stayed hot in the third inning and then in the 4th both Burstrom and Henry hit triples while Rochester and Wells had big singles.  Rochester ended the day 2-4 with 2 rbi's and Burstrom was 3-3 with 2 runs scored.  The Tigers won 6-1 and went to 13-3 on the young year and are 5-1 in conference play.  The Tigers go to Harriman Tennessee on Friday to play Roane State at 2 pm.

February 23rd vs. Jackson State

The Chatt State Tigers took on the always tough Generals of Jackson State.  Steve Corneliuson's team is always one of the best in the conference.  Coty Green took the mound for the Tigers and delivered 6 innings of competitive pitching.  Jackson scored 2 in each of the first two innings before Green settled down to slow the scoring.  He left in the 7th with the score 5-3 in favor of Jackson.  The Tigers scored their 3 in the 3rd inning on some very "flukish" play.  After 2 outs, Heath Cheverton got to first on an error by the shortstop.  Then Scotty Guest AND Trey Burstrom each reached on a strikeout and a catcher's error.  Nate Rochester then blooped a single in that took a crazy bounce and allowed 3 runs.  The scoring stopped until the bottom of the 9th when the Tigers mounted a rally.  Alex Henry reached on an error by the shortstop and was eliminated by fielder's choice.  Heath Cheverton rifled a double to left field that scored one run and then with 2 outs Nathan Rochester got a 2-strike single to score the second run.  Kendal Wells lined out to left field with the winning run on second base.  In the 10th inning, Coty Green led off with a triple and was left stranded as Trey Curtis popped out weakly and Alex Henry struck out and then following a walk, Heath Cheverton struck out.  Jackson scored in the 11th but the Tigers came back in the bottom and scored one as Burstrom doubled and Beau Geren hit a single to score him with 2 outs.  Again, Clay Hindman rifled a shot to centerfield that would have scored Geren, but was denied with a stellar defensive play.  In the 12th inning, Jackson scored 4 as the dam broke open.  After plating two runs, Henry dropped a nearly-super defensive play in centerfield to allow 2 more.  The "never-say-die" Tigers came in an immediately got a hit by Curtis and after a strikeout, got a single by Newson and then Cheverton and Guest and a HBP to Burstrom put the winning run on first.  Rochester hit a rocket to second base that he made a great play on to allow only one run and then Drew Carnes struck out with the winning run on second base.  The losing pitcher was Lee Henry who gutted out 4+ innings of good pitching not to receive a win.  The final score was 10-9 Jackson State.

Game 2 was played without Head Coach Greg Dennis as he was hospitalized for Kidney Stones.  Thomas Gray took the mound sporting a 3-0 record and a 0.00 ERA for the 2007 campaign.  He didn't disappoint as he delivered 5 scoreless innings to begin the game and allowed one run in the 6th that was scored by an error at shortstop.  The Tigers finally got on the board in the bottom of the 6th as Isaiah Newson led off with a single and then was moved to second via sacrifice bunt.  After a ground out and a walk to Trey Burstrom, Nate Rochester continued his hot hitting with a rocket to centerfield for a triple.  Kendal Wells immediately followed with a single to center and the Tigers were up 3-1.  Gray finished them off in the 7th to garner his 4th win and 3rd complete game.

Game 3 was the rubber game and was a dandy.  The Tigers came out hot with 4 runs in the first and 3 more in the second as they staked starter Drew Bowlin to a 7-2 lead.  Bowlin struggled the first 3 innings allowing 5 runs before settling down for the remainder of the game.  He threw a complete game and struck out 10 while allowing 9 hits.  Nate Rochester stayed hot as he had 3 hits and 4 rbi's and Kendal Wells also stayed hot with 2 hits and 2 rbi's.  Heath Cheverton did his part with 2 hits and Coty Green and Trey Curtis both had rbi hits during the scoring.  The Generals tried to tie it up but the Tigers withstood their rally and held on for a hard-fought 8-7 victory.  This was Bowlin's 3rd victory against no defeats and makes the Tigers 5-1 in conference play.  They will host Gadsden State on Monday in a make-up game from earlier this spring.

February 20th at Reinhardt College

The Chatt State Tigers furthered their road adventures as they went to Waleska, Georgia to take on the Reinhardt College JV.  The Tigers started off well as they scored 2 runs in the first behind a pair of walks and a bunt basehit by Nathan Rochester.  After a single by Kendal Wells plated one run, a double play ball by Coty Green scored the other.  5 runs were plated in the second as the Tigers blew open the game.  Alex Henry led off with a single and after Isiaiah Newson was hit by a pitch and Heath Cheverton reached on an error, Scotty Guest banged a single to left and Trey Burstrom hit a sacrifice fly to center.  Kendal Wells scorched a double to left field to end the scoring but the damage was done.  Bradden Scott mowed right along through 6 innings allowing no runs and only 4 hits while striking out 4.  The Chattanooga Christian School graduate garnered his first collegiate victory as the Tigers finished off the game 8-3.

The second started as well as the Tigers scored 1 in the second inning by moving runners along and a timely hit by Trey Curtis.  Unfortunately, freshman starter Jonathan Reeder got banged around in the second inning for 6 runs by Reinhardt's nine.  The Tigers immediately came in and scored 5 runs to tie the game behind big hits by Heath Cheverton ( 2 in the inning ), Scotty Guest, Trey Burstrom and Kendal Wells.  Reinhardt came right back with 3 as reliever Oscar Cuevas struggled to find the strike zone.  The Tigers scored 1 more in the 5th inning but left many stranded as they went down in the second game 10-7.  The Tigers will now host Jackson State this Friday at 2 pm and Saturday at noon.

February 19th at Shorter College

The nationally-ranked Chatt State Tigers rolled into Rome, Georgia to take on the Shorter College Hawks JV team.  Freshman Lee Henry took the mound for the Tigers and delivered 6 innings of solid pitching.  He allowed 1 run in the first and then nothing the rest of the way.  He struck out 6 and allowed only 4 hits.  Tyler Stokes came on and threw a solid 7th inning allowing no hits and no runs.  The Tigers got the offense going with the first hitter as Scotty Guest hit a solo HR to open the game.  In the 3rd inning the Tigers scored 3 as Trey Burstrom led off with a single to left and then Nate Rochester and Kendal Wells each it singles.  After an out, Trey Curtis hit a double to left and scored on Alex Henry's single.  The Tigers added 4 more in the 5th as Curtis, Heath Cheverton, Guest and Rochester all got big hits.  The final score was 8-1.

Game two started with freshman, Michael Burkett, on the bump for the Tigers.  The LFO-product delivered a solid 4-inning performance before leaving with a (non-throwing) shoulder problem.  Michael Gay, the Ridgeland HS freshman, came on and threw 3 very solid innings in closing the game out.  The Tigers started the game off with a 4-run 1st inning.  Scotty Guest led off the game with an infield single and moved up on Burstrom's walk.  Rochester plated the first run with a sacrifice fly and then Coty Green had a single and Beau Geren scored a run with a sacrifice fly.  Trey Curtis finished the scoring with a 2-run HR to left field.  The Tigers scored another run in the 3rd behind a double by Rochester and a single by Geren.  The Hawks scored 1 in the 3rd but that was to be their only run of the game.  The Tigers scored solo runs in the 4th and 6th innings as Tanner Shamblin and Alex Henry got big hits.  The final score was 7-1 running the Tigers record to 8-1 overall and preparing them for Tuesday's games against Reinhardt College.

February 16th and 17th at Cleveland State

Chattanooga State opened it's conference season at neighboring Cleveland State on what promised to be two very cold days. Both these teams were listed in the first NJCAA National Poll, Cleveland State at 25th and Chattanooga State at 35th. Friday was clear skied but very cold as the Tigers sent 2-0 Thomas Gray to the mound against Cleveland State's Josh Sitz.  Gray delivered yet-another great outing as he went a full 9 innings against a very solid hitting Cougar team and allowed no runs and only 6 hits.  He pushes his scoreless innings streak to 22 now.  The Tigers scored one run in the first when Scott Guest opened the inning with a single to left and was moved on Trey Burstrom's single.  After moving up on a wild pitch, Guest scored on a fielder's choice on Kendal Wells.  The Tigers scored again in the 3rd as Burstrom, again, singled and scored on Nate Rochester's scorching double down the third base line.  Again in the 5th the Tigers tallied a single run as Heath Cheverton singled to center and moved around to 3B on an infield error.  He scored on Burstrom's fielder's choice.  In the 9th inning the Tigers squirreled 3 runs across as Coty Green walked and after 2 outs Alex Henry, Isaiah Newson both walked and a balk scored one run and a double by Cheverton scored the other two.  The final score was 6-0 as the Tigers opened up the series with a "W".

Game two on Saturday was colder and filled with snow flurries.  As the temperatures dipped into the mid to low 20's, the Tigers and Cougars prepared for a long, cold day.  Drew Bowlin took the mound for the Tigers and delivered a very nice outing.  He went 6 innings and allowed 0 runs and struck out 6 while allowing 3 hits.  The game was scoreless through 4 as Donny Bryant was throwing a gem for the Cougars also.  The Tigers broke through in the 5th with a solo tally as Coty Green was HBP and moved to 2B on a wild pitch.  Trey Curtis moved him to 3B and Alex Henry scored him on a fielder's choice.  This was the only run of the game as Bowlin left after 6 innings and Lee Henry came in to close out the game.  After getting one out Henry proceeded to walk 3 guys in a row and load the bases.  He then coaxed a strikeout and a ground ball to shortstop, which Cheverton made a very nice play on to finish the game.

Game 3 held some of the same drama as the Tigers were looking to get a sweep against the 25th ranked Cougars for the second straight year.  Coty Green took the mound and the Chattanooga pitcher threw just as he did for Baylor School for 4 years.  He threw a complete game 3 hitter where he struck out 6 guys.  The Tigers scored one in the first as Guest again got it started with a triple to right field and scored on Burstrom's fielder's choice.  The Tigers didn't score again until the 5th when Burstrom hit a single  and moved around on some fielder's choice's and scored on a 2-out single by Green.  The Tigers also scored in the 7th as Rochester, Wells and Green all got big hits.  The final score was 4-0 and completed a 3-game sweep where the Tigers allowed NO RUNS for the series.  To do this against a quality opponent like Cleveland State at their field is unbelievable and the Tigers were extremely proud of the pitching and fielding for the weekend.

February 11th vs. Rio Grande College

The Chattanooga State Tigers opened up their home schedule for the 2007 season with Rio Grande College out of Ohio.  Originally scheduled was Olney Central, but due to unforeseen circumstances, they had to cancel.  Freshman Thomas Gray took the mound again for the Tigers and twirled a real "gem".  He went 7 innings and allowed 0 runs on 2 hits.  He struck out 13 hitters and generally controlled the game.  The Tigers scored 1 in the 2nd inning when Kendal Wells singled up the middle and then was scored by a single by Coty Green.  In the 3rd inning the Tigers broke loose for 4 runs as Isaiah Newson reached on an error and then stole second base.  Singles by Trey Burstrom and Nate Rochester got the inning going and then a double by Green and another single by Trey Curtis concluded the scoring.  The Tigers finished with a solo tally in the 5th when Curtis walked and was moved to third on Alex Henry's single.  He scored on a sacrifice fly by Heath Cheverton.  Rochester, Green and Curtis all ended the game with 2 hits and Green and Curtis had 2 RBI a piece.

Game two was more of the same by the Tigers as they jumped out early and often.  Freshman Drew Bowlin spun a nice outing as he went 4 2/3 innings and allowed 3 hits and struck out 8.  The Jefferson County native looked solid in his second outing and showed command of 2 pitches most of the outing.  The Tigers scored 1 in the first, 5 in the second 1 in the third, 5 in the fourth and 2 in the fifth to conclude the game, 14-4.  Alex Henry had 3 hits and 3 RBI and Clay Hindman was 4 for 4 in his first collegiate game with 3 RBI.  Pat Jones, Heath Cheverton and Coty Green all gyped in 2 hits a piece.

February 6th at Gadsden State

The 2007 season finally dawned at Gadsden State Community College in Gadsden, Alabama and it was a wonderful day down south.  Head Coach Greg Dennis' CSTCC Tigers took the field against the always tough Cardinals of Gadsden State and Bill Lochridge.  Freshman Thomas Gray ( Ringgold HS ) took the hill for the Tigers and delivered a real "gem" of a game.  He threw 6 innings and allowed 5 hits and struck out 7 while allowing no earned runs ( 2 unearned ) for his outing.  Freshman Lee Henry ( Karns HS ) came in and closed the game out with one inning of work and 2 strike outs for himself.  The final score was 6-2 Tigers.  The Tigers jumped out with 3 runs in the second inning as Kendal Wells, Coty Green and Alex Henry got on base on 2 walks and a hit by pitch and then Pat Jones delivered a fielder's choice to score one run and after Heath Cheverton walked Scott Guest got his second hit of the game and drove in another run.  Isaiah Newson drove in the third run of the inning with yet another fielder's choice.  The Tigers scored again in the fourth on a double by Jones and a single by Cheverton.  Another tally was rendered in the 5th behind a single by Trey Burstrom and a double by Nate Rochester.  With the score 5-2 the Tigers finished up scoring in the 7th with a walk to Wells and a double by Green.

The second game started off well for the Tigers as Freshman hurler Drew Bowlin ( UTK transfer ) took the mound for the Tigers and proceeded to strike out the first 3 hitters he faced.  The Tigers scored 2 in the first as Scott Guest again started the game off with a ringing single and moved around on a hit by pitch and a single by Burstrom.   Kendal Wells drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to center field.  After the Cardinals scored an unearned run in the second the Tigers plated 3 in the third as Guest walked and was moved to second and then after a hit by pitch, runs were plated with singles by Rochester and Wells.  Unfortunately, this is when the wheels came off a little for the Tigers as Bowlin gave up 2 more runs in the third and then Coty Green gave up 4 in the 5th and the damage was done.  Final score Cardinals 7 and Tigers 5 as CSTCC tasted their first defeat of the young season.  Scott Guest, Kendal Wells and Trey Burstrom all had good days offensively.

Spring Season 2006

April 28th and 29th at Volunteer State

The Chatt State Tigers rolled into Gallatin to play the Pioneers of Volunteer State in a series that had HUGE implications to both teams' playoff position.  A top-5 seed was hanging in the balance for both teams and whoever won the series had a great chance at a good seed.  Game 1 put Mickey Campeanu on the mound for the Tigers and he threw a superb game.  After having struggled some 3 of the last 4 starts he has had, Campeanu delivered a 3-hit gem allowing only 1 run ( earned ) and winning 5-1.  The Tigers jumped out in the first inning as AJ Renfrow was hit by pitch and moved around to third on Andy Simunic's bad-hop double.  Renfrow then scored on a wild pitch.  In the second inning Zane Rice ( who went 3-3 on the game ) hit a double to left field and Chris Glass then walked.  After a sacrifice bunt moved both, Nate Battenfield plated Rice with a ground out in the infield.  Trey Burstrom then got a key 2-out hit to drive in Glass and make it 3-0.  The Tigers scored another in the 3rd when Simunic again doubled and came around on 2 fielder's choices.  The Pioneers hit a solo HR in the 5th but the Tigers came right back and hit one of their own in the 6th by Renfrow.  Campeanu closed out the game and went to 7-5 on the year.

Game 2 put staff-ace Coleman McKellar on the mound going after win number 8.  McKellar delivered yet another great effort as he went all 7 innings and allowed only 5 hits and 1 unearned run while striking out 4.  This puts McKellar at 8-2 on the year making it the second straight year of 8 or more wins for the Francis Marion-signee.  The Tigers again scored runs right off of the bat as Renfrow walked and Simunic hit a single to move Renfrow and then AJ Morris hit a double and Nate Rochester followed with a single to end the scoring at 2 runs.  The second inning netted another run as Battenfield reached second on an error and then scored on Burstrom's single.  The Tigers broke it open in the 3rd as they plated 4 runs.  After an error, Morris ripped another double and Rice, Glass, Matt Johns and Battenfield all had hits.  The Tigers continued to pour it on in the 5th as Glass walked and Johns had another hit.  Battenfield drove another run in with an infield out.  The Pioneers struck for one unearned run in the 6th but McKellar cruised on home with the 9-1 win.  These wins clinched the Tigers spot in the top 5 and put them in position for a possible #2 finish in the conference.

Game 3 promised to be a "wild and wooly" affair as the wind was howling out to dead centerfield all game.  Cody Gossett took the mound for the Tigers and had little help after being spotted a 1-0 lead in the first on a Trey Burstrom lead-off home run.  Gossett allowed 3 unearned runs as a key error was made.  The Tigers tied the game up in the 3rd as they scored 2 behind singles by Renfrow, Rochester and a double by Glass.  The Pioneers came back with 4 runs in the 3rd as Gossett exited the game and Adam Knight entered.  Much like last week when Knight held down a potent Dyersburg club, he held down the hot-hitting Volunteer State team this week.  The Tigers scored 3 in the 6th to cut the lead to 7-6.  Matt Johns led off with a home run to left center and then Steve Simmons ripped a double to center and Battenfield got on on a bunt.  Burstrom hit a sacrifice fly and Renfrow walked.  The final run of the inning was a stolen base by Battenfield to score.  The Tigers put up 5 more in the 7th as after a pair of walks Johns hit a double down the 3B line and then Simmons singled to center and Burstrom hit his 2nd home run of the game and year.  The Pioneers put up 2 more in the 7th to make the score 11-9 but the Tigers quickly answered in the 8th as Simmons capped off a 4-5 performance with an opposite field home run and Chris Glass hit a 2 run home run.  The Pioneers scored 2 in the 9th as Knight tired but Nick Sholtz came in to garner his 3rd save of the season and the Tigers won 14-11 and clinched 2nd place in the conference for the first time ever.  Their 41st win qualified as the most in school history and capped an eventful and memorable season.  Now on to the playoffs next weekend in Columbia Tennessee.

April 25th vs. Piedmont College JV

The Tigers rebounded from a rough weekend and started off the new week in a better way.  Hosting Piedmont College's JV, the Tigers pounded out some runs and threw the ball very effectively.  Adam Knight started the game and after a brief bit of wildness in the first inning he settled down and threw 3 good innings of 1 run ball to push his record to 5-1.  Cody Gossett came in and threw 2 good innings and allowed 1 unearned run and 1 hit ( as did Knight ).  The Tigers jumped ahead in the first inning after falling behind 1-0 and scored 2 runs.  AJ Renfrow walked and Andy Simunic hit a double to center.  AJ Morris walked and Nate Rochester drove in Simunic with a single.  The Tigers scored 3 in the second inning and 1 in the third inning.  Renfrow had a big hit in the second and Alex Henry drove in one with a sacrifice fly in the third.  5 more were plated in the 4th as the game was blown open.  Renfrow got his second hit and Simunic, Morris, Rochester and Chris Glass all got hits.  Simunic scored the final run in the 5th after he walked and stole another base and scored on Rochester's single.

Game 2 was much of the same as the Tigers offense stayed awake.  Myron Jensen started the game and threw 3 solid innings striking out 4 and improving his record to 4-0 on the year.  Nick Sholtz came on and threw 2 super innings allowing only 1 run and 1 hit.  The Tigers again scored 2 in the first inning behind multiple walks and singles by Simunic and Rochester.  4 more were scored in the 2nd inning as Steve Simmons got a key hit around some walks and an error.  The game was officially broken open with 8 in the third inning as Josh Frederick got a key hit and Nate Rochester again drove in some runs with a double to left field.  Rochester concluded the doubleheader with 7 hits and 8 RBI's.  3 more were scored in the 4th inning as Trey Curtis and Nate Battenfield got the big hits.  The final score was 17-1 and this win pushed the Tigers record to a school record-setting 38-15 overall.  Their final regular season games will be at Volunteer State this Friday and Saturday.

April 22-23rd vs. Walters State

The 4th ranked Senators of Walters State came into town to play the 20th ranked Tigers of Chatt State.  Unfortunately for the Tigers, the Senators were a little more up for the task than the home team Tigers.  Mickey Campeanu took the mound for the Tigers in the first game and flew through the first 2 innings unscathed.  Unfortunately in the 3rd inning, the Senators began to figure out Campeanu and scored 2 runs.  While this was going on the Senators pitcher was mowing through the usually potent Tiger offense.  Other than Nate Rochester's single in the 2nd inning, the Tigers weren't able to muster much in the first 3 innings.  The Senators exploded for 4 runs in the 4th and the Tigers tried to answer with a HBP to AJ Renfrow and a single to center by Andy Simunic.  This put runners on second and third base with no outs but AJ Morris, Rochester and Chris Glass couldn't find a way to plate even one run.  The Senators then scored 1 in the 5th and 3 in the sixth as they broke the game open against relievers Brandon Stewart and Myron Jensen.  The Tigers finally scored 2 in the 7th inning but it was far too little too late as Chris Glass and Matt Johns hit singles and Trey Burstrom had an RBI.  The final score was 16-2 as the Senators won game 1.

Game 2 was a well pitched game as lefty, Lance McClain took the mound for the Senators sporting a 7-0 record and staff-ace Coleman McKellar took the mound for the Tigers sporting a 7-1 record.  Both didn't disappoint.  McKellar only weakend in the 4th as he walked the lead-off hitter and then allowed a 3-2 home run to fall behind 2-0.  The Tigers finally broke through in the 6th as Renfrow was again HBP and Simunic walked and after a strikeout they moved up on an infield single by Rochester and then a key 2 out hit by Glass.  Unfortunately, the Tigers were not able to drive in the go ahead run as Johns hit weakly to third base.  The Senators scored 1 run in the 8th inning and the Tigers were not able to answer that run and lost 3-2.  McKellar struck out 10 and threw masterfully as he held the Senators to 6 hits overall.  Rochester was 2 for 4 and Glass had a single and 2 RBI's.

Game 3 was more reminiscent of game 1 as the Senators fell behind 3-0 in the first inning.  Burstrom, Renfrow and Simunic all came out blasting hits, as Renfrow's was a ringing double.  Morris walked and Rochester rocketed a sacrifice fly and Glass hit an infield single.  All this led to 3 runs but the Senators came in and scored 5 off of Cody Gossett.  The then scored 2 in the 3rd and the Tigers came back and scored 1 in the inning as Burstrom and Renfrow again each hit doubles.  While the Senators continued to score, the Tigers began to slow down.  The Senators scored 1 in the 4th and 5 more in the 5th as the game was blown open.  Adam Knight came on and threw well in relief but was hurt by some shoddy fielding by the Tigers.  Nick Sholtz and Jason Laird finished the game in relief for the Tigers and fared no better.  The Tigers scored 1 in the 6th inning behind a double by Nate Battenfield and then a single by Renfrow and a double by Simunic.  Unfortunately, again, they died on base as Morris hit a shot to the second baseman.  The final score was 16-5 and the Senators left with a sweep of the series, the first such sweep of Chattanooga State this season.  The Tigers are 36-15 overall and 16-11 in conference and will host Piedmont JV Tuesday for a doubleheader at 1 pm.

April 17th vs. Shorter JV @ BellSouth Park

The 12th ranked-Chatt State Tigers came off of a long weekend at Dyersburg and jumped into Bell South Park to play host to the Hawks of Shorter College JV.  Myron Jensen took the mound coming off of his superb effort against Gordon and was a little less crisp in this outing.  He went 4.3 innings and allowed 4 runs ( 3 earned ) and 4 hits while striking out 1 and walking 3.  The Tigers jumped off to a 6-0 lead in the first inning as Trey Burstrom drew a walk and AJ Renfrow ripped a single to left field.  Both Andy Simunic and AJ Morris walked and then Nate Rochester reached on an error to plate 2 runs and Zane Rice sliced a double to score 2 more.  The scoring concluded on a sacrifice fly by Nate Battenfield.  The Tigers scored 1 more in the 2nd inning and 2 more in the third inning.  AJ Renfrow doubled and came around on a sacrifice by AJ Morris and in the 3rd inning Chris Glass singled and moved up on Burstrom's bunt single and then scored on Renfrow's sacrfiice fly.  Simunic drove in Burstrom with a single up the middle.  Shorter scored 2 in the 3rd and then scored 4 more in the 5th as Jensen gave way to Brandon Stewart who gave way to Adam Knight.  Stewart threw well but was hurt by some very poor decision making in the field.  Knight came in and got a huge strikeout and then another pair of strikeouts in the 6th.  He threw a solid 7th inning to get the save.

Game 2 was a pitcher's dual as Nick Sholtz took the mound for the Tigers.  He threw goose-eggs up for 3 innings before faltering and allowing 3 runs in the 4th inning.  The Tigers had scored 1 run in each of the first 3 innings and left numerous runners on base to keep from breaking the game open.  In the first inning with 2 outs Simunic tripled down the line and scored on Morris' infield single.  In the second inning, Matt Johns opened with a double to left and moved on Glass' bunt single and then scored on a fielder's choice ground out.  In the 3rd inning Simunic and Rochester had hits and Johns and Glass walked but the bases were left loaded after a strikeout and ground out.  In the 4th inning the Tigers again scored a solo run on an error and single and bunt single and fielder's choice.  Again, the bases were left loaded.  They chipped in a final run in the 6th as Simunic hit is 4th hit of the game and Morris was HBP.  A double steal then netted the Tigers their last run and Cody Gossett came in to get the save and throw 3 outstanding innings as the Tigers held on to win 5-3.  This makes the Tigers record 36-12 as they tie their last-year's school record for wins.  This also marks Head Coach Greg Dennis' 100th win at this school.  Next games are this Friday and Saturday vs. nationally-ranked Walters State at CSTCC.

April 14th and 15th at Dyersburg State

The Tigers rolled out one more time to West Tennessee this time to play the hot-hitting Eagles of Dyersburg State CC.  Robert White's Eagles have been one of the hottest teams in the conference to date and lead the conference in batting average.  The first game was a wonderfully pitched game and finished with a 2-1 score in favor of the Eagles.  Mickey Campeanu came off of a couple rough outings and put together a masterful job against a very potent lineup.  Campeanu allowed a solo home run to the lead off hitter after the Tigers had scored one in the top of the first inning.  He then settled in and threw 5 scoreless innings until allowing another solo home run in the 7th inning with 2 outs.  Unfortunately the Tigers couldn't score any more off of the Eagles and they lost 2-1.  In the first inning AJ Renfrow ripped a double to right field and was followed by a walk to Andy SimunicAJ Morris stroked a single to right field to score Renfrow but Nate Rochester hit into an inning-ending double play to conclude that scoring threat.  Chris Glass had 2 hits in his homecoming back to Dyersburg but it wasn't enough.

Game 2 promised to be a pitcher's dual as Joe Morgan ( 9-1 ) took the mound for the Eagles and Coleman McKellar ( 6-1 ) took the mound for the Tigers.  The Tigers broke through first on 5 runs in the 3rd inning off of Morgan.  After 2 outs the Tigers got rolling with singles by Nate Battenfield, Trey Burstrom, AJ Renfrow and Andy Simunic.  A walk to AJ Morris followed and then a booming double to left center field by Nate Rochester plated all 3 runners.  The Tigers scored another in the 5th when with 2 outs again Simunic singled and stole second and then scored on Morris' hit.  The Eagles finally broke through and scored 2 unearned runs in the 6th and the Tigers answered with another run in the 7th behind singles by Burstrom, Renfrow, Simunic and a sacrifice fly by Rochester.  The Eagles rallied for 3 runs but fell short with the final score being 7-5.  McKellar moved his record to 7-1 overall and allowed only 3 earned runs and had 7 strikeouts.

Game 3 was another barn-burner as the Eagles jumped out on starter Cody Gossett for 3 runs in the first 2 innings. The Tigers scored 1 run in the top of the 3rd as Chris Glass got on a hit by pitch and then Nate Battenfield hit a single followed by another infield single by Burstrom.  Into the game came Adam Knight and the Eagles were held relatively at bay.  He threw 4 innings and allowed 3 hits and no runs.  The Tigers broke loose and scored 5 in the 5th inning as Matt Johns, Battenfield had singles and Renfrow had a triple and Simunic a double.  4 more runs were scored in the 6th as the Tigers started to break away.  After a walk, Glass had another single as did Battenfield and then another triple by Renfrow broke the Eagles back.  Nick Sholtz came on to close the game and the Tigers won 10-3 to push their record to 34-12 overall and 16-8 in conference.  Their next game is at 1 pm Monday at Bell South Park as they play a doubleheader against the Shorter JV.

April 12th vs. Gordon College

The nationally ranked Tigers of Chattanooga State took on the Highlanders of Gordon College.  In the first game the Tigers sent "The Pride of Peachtree City" Myron Jensen to the mound to pitch and in his first start of the year Jensen delivered a "gem".  He threw a complete game and allowed only 1 run and 6 hits keeping the Highlanders off balance with a great curveball and a sneaky fastball.  The Tiger offense got started early with a run in the first behind a bunt single by Trey Burstrom and 3 walks to AJ Morris, Nate Rochester and Zane Rice.  In the 2nd inning, the Tigers plated 3 more as Steve Simmons hit an infield single and Chris Glass hit another infield single and scored on Burstrom's second hit.  Morris chipped in another key hit in the inning and the Tigers were rolling.  In the third inning Zane Rice reached first base on a scorching single and then moved up on a fielder's choice and scored on Nate Battenfield's single.  The Tigers plated 3 more in the 5th as Rice hit a single to center and then with 2 outs was sent to 3B on an errant pick off throw.  After Simmons walked, Glass hit a key double to left-center.  He then scored on Burstrom's third hit of the game.  The final tally for the Tigers was in the 6th as they led off with a double to left by AJ Renfrow and then scored on Morris' second hit of the game.  The final score was 9-1 as Jensen took his second win of the season against no losses.

Game two started off well for the Tigers as freshman, Nick Sholtz, took the mound and proceeded to pick up where Jensen had left off.  He ran into some trouble though and allowed 4 runs in his 6.3 innings pitched but only 2 of them were earned.  The Tigers jumped out to a 3-0 lead with 1 in the first inning and 2 in the second.  Glass led off with a HBP and then Burstrom walked.  After a fly out Morris hit a single to drive in one run.  In the second inning Battenfield walked and was sacrificed to second.  Josh Frederick ripped a shot to right field to drive him in.  After a pair of walks with 2 outs, Morris was hit by pitch to drive in another run.  Unfortunately, the Highlanders came back and drove 2 runs in the 7th ( unearned ), and took the lead but the Tigers came back with 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th inning and scored 1 run and had the winning run on 2nd with Burstrom at the plate.  After Chris Glass had already gotten a clutch 2-out, 2-strike hit to tie the game, Burstrom couldn't deliver the coup-de-grace and win the game.  In the 8th inning, the Highlanders again scored 1 run off of reliever Adam Knight.  The Tigers couldn't answer this run and went down to defeat, 5-4.  The next game is another crucial conference series for the 12th ranked Tigers at Dyersburg State on Friday and Saturday.  Then on Monday the Tigers return home to play a non-conference doubleheader against Shorter College JV at BellSouth Park at 1 pm.

April 8th and 9th vs. Motlow State

The Tigers hosted the "red-hot" Bucks of Motlow State who were coming in riding a 12 game winning streak.  The Tigers put Mickey Campeanu on the mound while the Bucks sported 3rd round pick Bryan Morris on the bump.  The Bucks jumped off for 7 runs in the first after their lead-off hitter pounded a 3-2 pitch for a home run.  Campeanu uncharacteristically never recovered and had, by far, his worse outing to date.  He gave up 2 more in the second and then Brandon Stewart came on and gave up 2 and Myron Jensen came in the 4th and gave up 4 while Jason Laird came on and threw the last 3 innings allowing 6 runs total.  In all, the Bucks scored 23 runs while the Tigers offense never got off the ground against Morris and the Bucks.

Game 2 faired much better for the Tigers as they showed great resiliency in bouncing back from a huge loss and putting together a great effort and result.  Cole McKellar took the mound and responded with another great outing.  Coming off of a very uncharacteristically bad outing in Memphis, McKellar threw 6 innings and allowed only 3 runs to the hot-hitting Bucks.  He struck out 4 and walked only 1 while allowing 6 hits.  The Tigers scored 6 in the first inning behind  singles by Trey Burstrom and AJ Renfrow and after a walk to AJ Morris and a single by Nate Rochester the big hits came from Matt Johns and Chris Glass.  Burstrom closed the inning out with yet another 2-RBI single.  The Tigers scored 3 in the second behind a big 2-run HR by Nate Rochester ( his fifth of the season ).  Another solo run was tallied in the 3rd inning as Nate Battenfield got on on an infield single and moved to third on AJ Renfrow's hit and scored on Andy Simunic's single.  After the Bucks had scored 3 in the top of the 4th, the Tigers responded with 2 in the 5th behind a double by Burstrom, who went 4-5 for the game, and singles by Renfrow ( 3-4 for the game ) and Ian Barsch and then a double by Rochester ( 3-3 for the game ).  The final run was tallied in the 6th when Chris Glass hit a single and was advanced on a fielder's choice and then stole 3B and scored on Burstrom's fourth hit of the game.  This finished the game early with the Tigers winning 13-3.

Game 3 started out much like the others with the Bucks scoring 2 in the top of the first inning against Cody Gossett, who came in sporting a 6-2 record.  The Tigers responded with 2 in the bottom of the first when Burstrom walked and Renfrow continued his hot hitting with a single and then AJ Morris ripped a double off of the right-center field wall.  Unfortunately, Morris died at second base and the Tigers' offense was slowed considerably after that.  The Bucks scored one in the 3rd inning and the game stayed at 3-2 until the fifth inning when they broke through for 2 2-out runs and then chipped in a solo run in the 6th off of Adam Knight.  Knight then allowed 4 more runs in the 7th ( 2 unearned ) as the Bucks turned a close game into a runaway and held on to win 10-2 to complete the 2 out of 3 series win.  AJ Renfrow was 2 for 4 in the second game.  The Tigers next game is a home doubleheader against Gordon College on Wednesday starting at 2 pm.

April 4th vs. Chattanooga Lookouts at BellSouth Park

The Tigers had a historic 1st meeting with the Chattanooga Lookouts at lovely BellSouth Park on a calm, cool evening.  The Tigers were nervous and anxious as the game drew closer but were put at ease by the wonderful treatment by the Lookouts team and staff.  They treated us like "big-leaguers" and made the evening particularly special for all the participants and coaches.  After taking a round of pre-game batting practice and infield-outfield, the team was treated to a full players introduction and national anthem.  Once the game began the Tigers got down to trying to play their best.  After going 3-up / 3-down in the first inning, Cole McKellar took the hill and threw an excellent first inning allowing no runs.  The Tigers didn't get a baserunner until the fourth and by then the damage was done.  Cody Gossett threw the second inning and allowed 3 runs while battling out of a bases loaded jam.  Then the roof fell in as Mickey Campeanu threw the 3rd inning and immediately got 2 outs and then allowed 5 runs on a pair of walks, a hit and 2 home runs.  After this inning the Tiger pitching settled down to throw "goose-eggs" the rest of the way.  In the fourth inning the Tigers offense tried to wake up and make some noise.  AJ Renfrow got the Tigers' first hit on a single to right field.  He proceeded to steal 2B and then
