Spring of 2009 dawns with high expectations for the Chatt State Tigers baseball team. This program that has strived to further a tradition of excellence on and off of the field over the past 5 years. Winning over 150 games the past 4 seasons, sending over 35 guys on to 4-year programs, garnering the highest number of Academic All Conference players in the region over that period isn't enough. The bar has been placed even higher as Head Coach Greg Dennis and the coaching staff have asked even more from this year's group. Sophomores Edwin Borbon ( OF ), Garret Burgess ( OF ), Alex Bush ( C ), Corey Davidson ( P ), Lewis Dortch ( P ), Daniel Merck ( SS ), Brian Satterfield ( P ), Dexter Scudgins ( 1B ), Aaron Short ( C ), Dane Anderson ( P ), Morgan Costner ( DH/1B ), and Ryan Williams ( OF ) are going to be expected to lead a solid bunch of freshmen into this season's challenges. The challenges include facing the weekly battles that occur within the daunting Region 7 schedule. Perennial powers such as Walters State, Volunteer State, Dyersburg State and Cleveland State dot the schedule as well as the NJCAA National Rankings. The Tigers will need to rely on their sophomores as well as freshmen such as: Tyler Burstrom ( P ), Zack DeBord ( OF/P ), Jaron Hollifield ( P ), Andy Marinelli ( 3B ), Travis Murphy ( P ), Will Phillips ( P ), Jacob Price ( 2B ), and Adam Whitlock ( OF/1B ). It will take a full "team effort" to contend with the challenges that they are going to be asked to contend with but that is what Chatt State baseball has been all about these past 5 years.........Competing to WIN!! |
