Testing Center

This test is given to prospective students under 21 years of age who have enrolled at Chattanooga State. The scores from this test are not transferable to other universities and colleges. The residual test consists of 4 parts: English, Math, Reading and Science.

Additional Requirements

• Dual-Enrollment and Middle College students must bring their admissions ticket.
• Gov't issued picture I.D. is required
• You may take the test every 60 days
• Calculators are permitted, excluded are TI89 and TI92
• This test takes 4 hours to complete.

The Testing Center administers several different career interest tests based on recommendations from your advisors and counselors in the Career Planning area.

CLEP tests are used to grant credit for college level courses. Go to http://clep.collegeboard.org for information on courses available. Then print a copy of the CLEP registration form off this website and bring or mail to the testing center. An appointment to take the test will then be set up.

• When? Mondays or Fridays at 9:30 A.M.
• Cost: $30 administration fee due with application (check or cash), $80 exam fee due the day of the test (credit card or check)
• Scheduling: return completed registration form with the $30 fee to the IMC Building, Room 122

This placement exam is required for all students 21 years of age or older who do not have transfer credit in college English or Mathematics after you are admitted to Chattanooga State.

• When? Mondays at 9:00 A.M. and 1:30 P.M., Tuesdays at 1:30 P.M. and 5:30 P.M., Thursdays at 9:00 A.M. and 5:30 P.M. and Friday at 12:30 P.M.
• Cost: Free the first time you take the test, $10 for each test that is challenged
• Scheduling: First come, first serve, no appointment is necessary

• Must bring admissions ticket (pick it up at the Enrollment Services Center in the Student Enrollment Center, S119) and Gov’t issue picture I.D.
• The test takes approximately 2 hours for all three parts: Reading, Writing and Math

Chattanooga State courses that are fully online that must have exams proctored.

• Scheduling: Follow the directions provided in eLearn

Chattanooga State instructors that bring Make-Up exams to the testing center for proctoring.

• Cost: $10 for each test taken
• Scheduling:  Exams may be taken during regular scheduled hours.

Additional Requirements

• Must show a Chattanooga State student I.D.
• Instructor must provide us with the exam dates and restrictions
• No make-up exams are given during final exams.

GED tests are a group of five subject tests ("Language Arts: Writing", "Social Studies", "Science", "Language Arts: Reading", and "Mathematics".) which, when passed, certify that the taker has American high-school level academic skills. The American Council on Education is the sole developer for the GED test. The test is in person. The State of Tennessee awards a "Certificate of General Educational Development" to persons who meet the passing score requirements. Only individuals who have not earned a high school diploma may take the GED tests.

• When? Wednesdays at 7:45 A.M. - 4:30 P.M.(30 minutes for lunch)
• Cost: $65, $13 for re-test
• Scheduling: Visit the IMC building, Room 122

Additional Requirements

• You must bring your Official Practice Test (OPT) results. If you need to take the OPT call 423.697.2529 for scheduling.
• Government Issued I.D.
• Cost of the test ($65 cash or check)
• Fill out the paperwork which takes approximately 20 minutes
• The minimum passing score for any given sub-test is currently 410 and for the test as a whole (currently 2250, i.e. an average of 450 per test across all five sub-tests).
• We are currently testing to the 2002 version of the test which will be replaced starting 1-1-2014 with a new version.
• The new version of the test will be on the computer and paper and pencil will no longer be an option.

This accommodation allows students enrolled in online courses at other colleges and universities to take their test or exam at Chattanooga State.

TEAS is the exam given for entrance into the following programs: Dental Hygiene, Health Information Mgt, LPN to RN transition, Paramedic to RN transition, Physical Therapy Assistant, Radiologic Technology, Registered Nursing, Respiratory Care and Veterinary Technology. The test consists of 85 scored multiple‐choice questions divided into two subsections: Mathematics and Reading. The test used is Version 5 Form A and we do not give the Science and English sections of the TEAS.

• Reading – paragraph comprehension, passage comprehension and inferences/conclusions (40 items)
• Math – whole numbers, metric conversion, fractions, decimals, algebraic equations, percentages and ratio/proportion (45 items)

• Scheduling: Return completed registration form with the $55 fee to the IMC Building, Room 122 to confirm registration. Only one re-scheduling will be accepted or your money will be forfeited.

Chattanooga State offers the TOEFL iBT test to individuals who would like to pursue their studies here at Chattanooga State. We give the paper-based test. The TOEFL iBT test measures your ability to use and understand English at the university level. And it evaluates how well you combine your listening, reading, speaking and writing skills to perform academic tasks.
