Testing Center

The Testing Center as part of the Academic Support Services Unit supports the institutional mission of Chattanooga State Community College by providing national, graduate, and professional certification, distance education examinations, and university assessments to students and other examinees in a professional, secure, and accessible environment. All tests are administered with high-quality customer service under standard conditions that are efficient, fair, and secure. We adhere to the National College Testing Association’s (NCTA) Professional Standards and Guidelines. Our Testing Center thrives on maintaining compliance with best practice testing standards and practices, safeguarding the confidentiality of all while creating an optimal testing environment.

*There are no evenings or Saturday hours during semester breaks or Saturday hours during May-September.


Goals

  • Administering appropriate exams to determine initial course placement to support student retention and success
    • Referring students to appropriate resources for test preparation and registration
  • Assist academic divisions on campus by providing necessary examinations for entrance and certification.
  • Assist Academic Resources by conducting all online student exams
  • Support the TN eCampus program by providing proctored midterms and final exams
  • Provide a public service by offering computer-based and/or paper-pencil testing services to businesses.
    • Administer national and professional entrance, certification, and career entrance examinations.

General Testing Requirements

Students

  • Chattanooga State ID* (No photo copied or cell phone picture IDs will be accepted.)
  • Distance Student Testing: Host/Home institution’s ID. (No photo copied or cell phone picture IDs will be accepted.)

Non-Students

  • A valid, pictured state or federal ID (No photo copied or cell phone picture IDs will be accepted.)

ACT Residual Test

This test is given to prospective students under 21 years of age who have enrolled at Chattanooga State’s Collegiate High or Early College programs. The scores from this test are not transferable to other universities and colleges. The residual test consists of 4 parts: English, Math, Reading, and Science.

  • Cost: $48.50

Additional Requirements

  • Dual-Enrollment and Collegiate High students must bring their admissions ticket.
  • Gov't issued picture I.D. is required
  • You may take the test every 60 days
  • Calculators are permitted, excluded are TI89 and TI92
  • This test takes 4 hours to complete.

Official Scores will be submitted to Collegiate High or Early College programs only.

College Level Examination Program (CLEP)

CLEP tests are used to grant credit for college-level courses. Go to http://clep.collegeboard.org for information on courses available. Then print a copy of the CLEP registration form from this website and bring or mail it to the testing center. An appointment to take the test will then be set up. Pay for the test at www.collegeboard.org/clep before the scheduled date of testing and bring the receipt with you to the test.

  • When: Fridays at 9:00 A.M.
  • Cost: $28.50 administration fee due with ticket ID from CLEP registration (debit/credit card), $85 exam fee due before the day of the test
  • Scheduling: Enroll by clicking the eScheduler link following the directions provided and confirming your reservation by uploading your CLEP Registration form from College Board.
College Placement Assessment

This placement exam is required for all students 21 years of age or older who do not have transfer credit in college English or Mathematics after you are admitted to Chattanooga State.

  • When:
    • Mondays at 9:00 A.M. or 1:30 P.M.
    • Tuesdays at 1:30 P.M. or 5:30 P.M.
    • Thursdays at 9:00 A.M. or 5:30 P.M.
    • Friday at 12:30 P.M.
  • Note: You can only take the placement assessment two times in total. Make sure that you know which subjects you need to take (Reading, Writing, and/or Math) and your A# (student number).
  • Scheduling: Follow the directions provided in eScheduler
  • Required: A pictured State ID and a confirmed registration through the eScheduler.

There will be no placement exams given during mid-terms or finals.

Online Exams (D2L)

Chattanooga State courses that are fully online that must have exams proctored.

  • Cost: None
  • Scheduling: Follow the directions provided in eScheduler
  • Required: Chattanooga State Student I.D. or host institution’s I.D. will be accepted. No photo copy or cell phone IDs are allowed. Call 697-2633 in Student Life for operation hours or go to the student center S-118 to have an ID made.
Faculty Make-Up Exam

Chattanooga State instructors that bring Make-Up exams to the testing center for proctoring.

  • When? Every Tuesday from 4 P.M. until 6 P.M. and Wednesday from 11 A.M. until 3 P.M.
  • Cost: $11.50 for each test taken
  • Scheduling: Every Tuesday from 4 P.M. until 6 P.M. and Wednesday from 11 A.M. until 3 P.M. Schedule online through eScheduler.
  • Instructions: Choose a group-click on the dropdown menu and choose “Make Up Exam”. Complete all required fields (2-5). Click on the green tab “Add to Cart” and follow payment instructions. You must pay by debit/credit card.

Additional Requirements

  • Must show a Chattanooga State student I.D.
  • The instructor must provide us with the exam and restrictions before schedule exam time.
  • No make-up exams are given during mid-terms and final exams.
High School Equivalency Exams

TN eCampus Exams

View the TN eCampus help site for TN eCampus exam information. All tests are given in IMC 122. A Chattanooga State college ID is required of all students who are taking the tests through Chattanooga State. Students enrolled in other colleges, must show their college ID. A list of TN eCampus Test Sites can be found here. Transient students will need a student ID.

Special Proctored Exams

This accommodation allows students enrolled in online courses at other colleges and universities to take their test or exam at Chattanooga State.

ATI TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills)

ATI TEAS is the exam given for entrance into the following programs: Dental Hygiene, Health Information Mgt, LPN to RN transition, Paramedic to RN transition, Physical Therapist Assistant, Radiologic Technology, Registered Nursing, Respiratory Care and Veterinary Technology. Note: There are program deadlines for each of the above programs.

  • Facts to know before and after test
  • Cost: $98.50
  • Instructions: Choose a group-click on the dropdown menu and choose “Nursing and Allied Health Division (TEAS exams). Complete all required fields (2-7). Click on the green tab “Add to Cart” and follow payment instructions. You must pay by debit/credit card.
  • Scheduling: Register online through eScheduler for ATI TEAS. Cancellation must be 72 hours in advance. No change of date will be allowed without 72 advance notice and documentation (note from a doctor, hospital, or legal notice.) 

Additional Requirements

  • Test may be taken only once every six weeks
  • Photo I.D. is required to take the test and verification receipt of payment

TOEFL IBT

Chattanooga State offers the TOEFL iBT test to individuals who would like to pursue their studies here at Chattanooga State. We give the paper-based test. The TOEFL iBT test measures your ability to use and understand English at the university level. It evaluates how well you combine your listening, reading, speaking and writing skills to perform academic tasks.
