Chattanooga State is creating a College Within a College that will offer a full-time honors curriculum for a select group of high-achieving students, launching in Fall 2014. The purpose is to prepare these students for transfer as juniors to several of the Southeast’s most selective institutions. We have begun negotiating guaranteed admission into these competitive four-year colleges and universities.
With the criterion for admission of an ACT score of 27 and a 3.5 GPA (grade point average), the College Within a College will build a cohort group among these high-achieving students so that they can learn from and with each other, comparing themselves to other high-achievers. They will be supported in acclimating themselves to high-intensity college courses by having a librarian, a writing mentor, and an academic advisor/life coach assigned to each individual.
This year, Chattanooga State launched a pilot program by offering unique multidisciplinary courses taught by professors with Ph.D.’s, that are enhanced by field trips and lecture attendance.
