Rex Knowles

Sherry Landrum and Rex Knowles met in 1965 at Home Is the Hunter, an
outdoor drama in Harrodsburg, Kentucky. It was their first
professional acting job. They have continued and nurtured their
relationship together as actors, directors, writers, producers,
teachers, partners, and parents.
As a director, Sherry has won two Los Angeles Drama
Critics awards. Regionally, she has directed for the American
Heartland Theatre in Kansas City; the Pioneer Square Theatre in
Seattle; Garage Theater in New Jersey; Stephens College in Columbia;
Missouri; the Cumberland County Playhouse in Crossville; Tennessee
and the Chattanooga Theatre Centre in Chattanooga, among others. In
New York, Sherry directed Rosemary Leaves written by husband Rex
Knowles and Cheatin' written by Del Shores. She directed Friday
Night Improv at the New Actors Workshop and Luck of the Draw, a
two-act improvisational musical she created and developed.
Sherry wrote (with her partner and collaborator George
S. Clinton) and Rex produced two musicals, That Other Woman's Child
and Smoky Mountain Suite. That Other Woman's Child premiered this
past summer at the Chattanooga State Repertory Theatre to rave
reviews. Smoky Mountain Suite was produced for PBS and later adapted
for the Gene Autry Radio Theatre. She is working on Paradise Court,
her third musical.
Sherry appeared as a semi-regular on General Hospital,
has done numerous commercials and movies, and hosted the talk show
Faithways for CBS. Sherry holds a Masters Degree in Theatre Arts
from Antioch University.
Rex's productions have won over thirty Los Angeles
Drama Critics' awards, including best production, best ensemble
cast, and best director. He has written for the game shows Jackpot,
The New $25,000 Pyramid, and Double Talk and was Associate Producer
for Bob Stewart Productions (ABC). Rex is the author of Rosemary
Leaves, several screenplays, and is currently finishing a book on
improvisation. Rex is proud to have appeared in the TV classics,
M*A*S*H, Starsky and Hutch, and The Dukes of Hazzard. Rex holds a
Masters Degree in Theology and the Arts from Union Theological
Seminary. With The Consulting Alliance, Rex and Sherry conduct
workshops on creativity, team building, negotiation skills,
cross-cultural adaptability, and coaching for mastery and deficit.
They have led workshops on improvisation, acting for
the camera, audition techniques, commercial acting, and developing
the artist's sense of personal vision. Clients have included the
American Film Institute, Screen Actors Guild Conservatory, ATHE
(Association for Theatre in Higher Education), Hofstra University,
Southeastern Theatre Conference, Georgia Theatre Conference,
Tennessee Theatre Conference, and the Lorian Society (Washington).
For ten years, Rex and Sherry served on the faculty of
the New Actors Workshop in New York City, a professional actor
training program founded by George Morrison, Mike Nichols and Paul
Sills. Sherry taught acting and improvisation and chaired the
Masters Degree Program. Rex taught improvisation and served as
Administrator for the school.
Rex and Sherry are the parents of two daughters, Canedy
and Jessie. Both are pursuing acting careers.
