ADMISSIONS
- Qualified sophomores, juniors, and seniors are eligible to apply.
- Applicants must be recommended by high school principal, teacher, and/or counselor.
- ACT score must be greater than or equal to 19.
- Student needs to demonstrate the maturity to cope with the freedom of a college campus.
- Applications are available from all Hamilton County high school counselors, the Middle College Office, and Online. (see below)
- Students will withdraw from their zoned high school and enroll at MCHS.
- Students who attend MCHS are responsible for their own transportation.
- An interview with the principal is required prior to acceptance.
ELIGIBILITY
Eligible students customarily have several of these characteristics.
- Sophomores, juniors, and seniors who may be struggling to complete work that is not challenging enough for their potential
- Students who demonstrate the maturity to cope with the freedom of a college campus.
- Students who may be dissatisfied with the typical high school environment and wish to explore learning in a different and more mature atmosphere.

STEPS FOR ADMISSION
- Take the ACT test –
Students can sign up to take the ACT at their current high school. (See your
school counselor for test dates and deadlines for signing up for the test.) Or
take the Residual ACT at Chattanooga State. The Residual is given every Thursday
at 12:00 noon in the testing center. Student will need an admission slip from
the Middle College office.
- Complete the MCHS application – (ACT score of 19 or better is required)
The application packet consist of:
- Complete
Dual Enrollment Scholarship Application – Juniors and Seniors only
- Schedule an Interview – Parents and student will be interviewed
- Acceptance Letter Sent - This letter is mailed within five days after the interview if all parts of the application is complete.
- Complete the Chattanooga State’s Application – Return the Chattanooga State’s application to the Middle College office along with a $15.00 application fee.
- Schedule academic counseling – Students will meet with the school counselor to complete semester schedule and complete graduation plan.
