Stein is the author of several collections of poems: Bruised Paradise, A Circus of Want, and Ransom (forthcoming). He has written 2 books of criticism, Private Poets; Worldly Acts, on poetry and history; and James Wright: The Poetry of A Grown Man. He has won an NEA Fellowship, numerous prizes, and three Illinois Arts Council fellowships. He teaches at Bradley University, where he has won a professor of the year award.
