Gaylord Brewer


Gaylord Brewer is a professor at Middle Tennessee State University, where he founded and edits the journal Poems & Plays. The most recent of his six books of poetry are Barbaric Mercies(Red Hen, 2003), Exit Pursued by a Bear(Cherry Grove, 2004) and Let Me Explain(Iris Press, 2006). He has published 600+ poems in journals and anthologies, including Best American Poetry 2006. Brewer’s literary criticism includes David Mamet and Film(McFarland, 1993) and Charles Bukowski(Twayne/ Macmillan, 1997). His plays have been staged in Alaska, New York, Ohio, and Tennessee, and his novella Octavius the 1stwill be published by Red Hen in 2007.
