The Mathematics Center provides academic support to Chattanooga State students who may need assistance with math courses.

The Mathematics Center is dedicated to teaching students how to be successful at math. We are committed to providing students with a winning environment where educators and students discover hidden abilities, talents and skills through new learning techniques based on sound academic research.

The Mathematics Center also fosters independent learning because students who develop independent study habits greatly increase their chances for continued success in college. Faculty, professional and peer tutors are available to answer questions, make suggestions, or coach students through difficult assignments.

  Drop-In Tutorial Sessions

  Drop-in tutorial sessions are available on a first-come, first-served basis.  Drop-in tutorial sessions conducted by faculty tutors, professional tutors, or peer tutors, are primarily held in the lab area or in the study rooms; however, the services counter or the computer room can be the place for the answer to a quick question.

  Group Tutorial Sessions

  At the beginning of each semester, group tutorial sessions are scheduled for various mathematics courses. As the semester continues, more sessions are added to meet the demand. These sessions enhance the student's level of academic success.

  How do these types of tutorial sessions form? Who determines what time is best for the student population?

  The students do! If several students wish to share sessions with others, a group tutorial session can be arranged. Each group tutorial session is conducted by faculty tutors, professional tutors, or peer tutors. The sessions are held in study rooms in the lab area.

  Testing

  The Math Center provides a testing area for mathematics courses at Chattanooga State. Since there is only a thirty seat capacity, testing services are limited to a first-come, first-served basis. To allow for sufficient time, tests will not be distributed during the hour prior to closing. Consequently, final exams will not be distributed during the two hours prior to the closing.

  Official picture identification is required to obtain a test.

  Video Instruction

  Videos are available for most mathematics courses taught at Chattanooga State. Students are allowed to check our a maximum of four videos for two days. There are TV/VCR combinations available for student use in the Math Center or the Distance Learning Center on the second floor of the IMC.

  Computerized Instruction

  The Mathematics Center has instructional software available for most mathematics courses at Chattanooga State. There are personal computers available for student use in the center.

  Solution Manuals

  The Mathematics Center has student solution manuals for most math courses offered at CSTCC.  These manuals are available for lab use only.

  What types of tutors are available?

  Tutors providing assistance in the Math Center participate in a series of orientations and training sessions throughout the year.

  
  Faculty Tutors
  Chattanooga State faculty from the Mathematics Department
  
  Professional Tutors
  Caring, dedicated, and highly qualified professionals with at least a bachelor's degree and two years of experience
  
  Peer Tutors
  Chattanooga State students who have successfully completed various college level math courses, a series of orientation and training sessions, and who are recommended by instructors
