Practical Nursing
Practical Nursing is a three semester program. The curriculum provides the theoretical knowledge and clinical practice experiences needed for the program graduate to be able to give competent, safe bedside nursing care at the practical nursing level. The course of study is:
Preclinical theory includes a study of vocational relation, anatomy and physiology, normal nutrition, nursing principles and skills, beginning math for medication, first aid and CPR, and introduction to medical/surgical nursing. The first clinical experience is obtained in the nursing home.
This course is a study of nursing care as it applies to the care of the hospitalized adult with medical and/or surgical problems. This includes disease process, nursing care, diet therapy and pharmacology. Clinical experience is obtained in the acute care, hospital setting.
Students are introduced to specialty areas of nursing: Maternal and Gynecological Nursing, and Pediatric Nursing. A final intensive clinical practice experience is designed to prepare the student to enter the work force. 2005 Graduates
Classes meet five days a week for three semesters, and new students enroll in the Fall and Spring semester each year upon completion of the application process. Upon graduation, students are eligible to write the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nursing (NCLEX-PN).
