Chattanooga State welcomes Dr. Katheryn A. Thompson to the full time staff in Language Arts. Dr. Thompson taught for Chattanooga State last year in a one year term position. For more information, visit her bio page.

Chattanooga State is partnering with local businesses and organizations, offering medical Spanish classes at Erlanger and business Spanish at Covenant Transport.

Sunday, October 21, 2007, Chattanooga State’s La Plaza Comunitaria, Spanish Department and Adult Education Department partnered with other local organizations for “The Latino Health Fair Binational Health Week” from 1-5 p.m. at the St. Andrew’s Center. For more information, see the Chattanoogan.

In 2005, Mirtha Jones was awarded the Harold Love Outstanding Community Service Award. Each year five Tennessee higher education students and five faculty/staff recipients are selected. Mirtha was recognized for her direction in the Plaza Comunitaria, an outreach program for illiterate Hispanics in the U.S. This program offers instruction in literacy skills and preparation for the GED and college programs.
