CSTCC Announces 2008 Award Winners

Chattanooga State's baseball team is coming off another fine year and has announced the recipients of 2 re-named awards.  The first award is named after one of the finest pitchers ever to wear the blue and orange of Chattanooga State and that is the Rod Bolton Most Valuable Pitcher Award. This years winner is Lee Henry.  Lee is a sophomore from Knoxville, Tennessee and he had a brilliant 2-year career at CSTCC.  He was 9-0 with 7 saves and a sub 2.00 ERA last year and followed it up with a 5-5 record and 3 saves and a 2.83 ERA.  Coach Dennis had this to say about Henry, "Lee was as fine a pitcher as we have had in a while here.  His numbers certainly didn't fully depict how well he threw on a consistent basis.  His coming out from the bullpen and being a starter was a key to our success this spring.  He is a true BULLDOG on the mound." 

The second award is the Bobby Brotherton Most Valuable Player Award.  This award is named after the decorated former head coach at Chattanooga State that did so much to build the competitive foundation of this program.  Coach Brotherton helped guide the Tigers to numerous winning seasons and secured 4-year scholarships for countless players in his time here "on the river".  The winner this years winner is Beau Geren.  Beau came to CSTCC from Red Bank HS and left his mark on this program. He was a 2nd Team All Conference performer as a freshman and followed that up with a 1st Team All Conference and All Region performance this year.  He hit  .387 with 70 hits and 18 doubles and 7 triples for the spring while catching almost all conference games.  He drove in 65 runs and scored 53 while stealing 17 bases.  Coach Dennis said " we will truly miss Beau's athleticism and drive.  He was a wonderful part of two highly successful seasons and we look forward to following him more at University of Central Arkansas."
