Student Background Checks
Some of our clinical affiliates (hospitals) are requiring criminal background
checks of all students and faculty who participate in clinical activities at
their facilities.
Background checks must be completed within 90 days of matriculating into the program, thus they should not be
initiated prior to June for students whose programs begin in the fall semester.
Please note that these checks are an affiliate requirement, not a requirement of the college. Chattanooga State
personnel have no role in determining the criteria used, as these are determined by the affiliate. Chattanooga
State personnel will have no role in evaluating background check results, nor will the college receive any of
your personal results beyond a pass/fail report from your background check vendor.
Only those students who will be engaged in a clinical rotation at affiliates who require background checks are
impacted by this matter. Those students will be notified in writing in the form of a letter from the Dean of
Nursing and Allied Health. If you do not receive a letter, you are not subject to the background check requirement
at this time, unless you are notified by your program director.
The student letter contains information on vendors who have agreed to provide this service meeting the
specifications of the affiliate.
